Golden Ticket
Manchester Orchestra Lyrics

Right before that operator made us disconnected
Please take care of yourself was the last thing I said
Right before that operator made us disconnected
If you can hear me right now, I've got a formula vow
That swears I'll do my best to figure out this situation
First of all I'll explain why I caused all that water
But never fixed that leaking pipe that floods us to the sealing
An empty shot glass doesn't lie so I fulfilled my appetite
And crossed my fingers that the good Lord
Will take care of you and I again
So now that I found it, I'll tie the ropes around it
And make sure that the bottle never bothers us again
Well, I promise this time really, yeah
I'm cleaning up sincerely, yeah
And I'll make sure that the devil never bothers you again
How I wish that you had sold me on all of those big goals
Of being a good father not a careless liar
Well, am I really that old, ignorant or to slow
To realize I have lost my golden ticket back home?
"Golden Ticket" is a song by Manchester Orchestra that discusses the weight of past regrets and the desire to make amends. The song begins with the singer recalling their last words to the person they love, "Please take care of yourself," and how they were suddenly cut off because of an operator. The singer then reveals that they caused water damage to their home by ignoring a leaking pipe due to their own self-destructive habits. They express remorse for their actions and promise to make things right.
The second verse delves deeper into the singer's regrets by wishing they had been a better father and person in general. The chorus repeats the phrase "Golden Ticket," which could refer to the idea of redemption and a second chance at happiness. The singer seems to be searching for a way to make things right and wishes they could go back to a better time. Throughout the song, there is a sense of desperation and guilt that drives the narrative.
Overall, "Golden Ticket" is a powerful song that explores the weight of past mistakes and the hope for redemption. The singer is searching for a way to make things right but is haunted by their past actions. The song's wistful and melancholy tone is underscored by the haunting instrumentals and emotive vocals, making for a cathartic listening experience.

I'm a total metalhead and I haven't found a song by Manchester Orchestra that I don't like. There is no way to describe it.

Listening to this song when I was in highschool 13 years ago. While falling in love with it and feeling its power. I had no idea that it would take until now in 2023 to really understand it. It's not about regret. It's about learning from a mistake.

I love Manchester's symbolism.. The beginning, he is a free bird, and then he feels caged up, and breaks loose. He then tries to run away from everything(the horses), but realizes he cant, so, he goes back to the start(Back to bird. All of his emotions are bottled up, and feels trapped(The bottle scene), but he breaks loose, and goes back home. He is with his family, and there is energy(Lightbulb comes on). The paper burning symbolizes the new beginning :D This band is godly. Thank you!
