You'd Be so Nice to Come Home To
Helen Merrill Lyrics

You'd be so nice by the fire
While the breeze on high, sang a lullaby
You'd be all my heart could desire
Under stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon shining above
You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise
To come home to and love
Under stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon burning above
You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise
To come home to and love
The song "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" by Helen Merrill is a love ballad that expresses the comfort and joy that the persona will feel upon coming home to their loved one. The persona expresses the idea that their loved one would be so nice to come home to and how they would feel by the fire, while the breeze outside sings them a lullaby. This creates a picture of warmth, comfort, and happiness that comes with the idea of coming home, especially to someone who is loved and dear.
The second stanza of the song describes the various situations under which the persona imagines their loved one to be nice to come home to. Be it under the stars, in the winter's chill, or under the blazing heat of the August moon; their loved one would still be Paradise for them, a perfect place to come home to and love. The repetition of the line "You'd be so nice to come home to" in both stanzas of the song helps to reinforce the central idea of the song - that the loved one would be the perfect partner and home for the persona.

This song reminds me of my past cozy home with deceased father and mother, listening as a CF song from TV, my mother admired " what a beautiful song and lovely voice " with dreamy eyes. Sweet memory along with a touch of loneliness.
