You really did have to be there to enjoy this! The tv networks showed Reagan getting shot CONTINUALLY - it was on a continual loop. It was slow motion, slower motion, regular time....over and over. When I saw this that Saturday Night, I literally laughed until I cried.

I was at A&M and saw something a bit different. It was the same video showed repeatedly to spoof the ridiculous coverage of Pres. Reagan being shot. I absolutely remember that. Regardless of channel, as the anchor spoke, the video running in the background was about (no jk) 3 seconds of the instant the president was shot, over and over AND OVER AND OVER !!!! ... ... @#$%!!!!

The funniest thing about this is how close it was to the way they actually reported Hinckley's attempt on Reagan a couple years earlier, because the footage being repetitively played over and over is clearly a parody of that and the way Ted Koppel reported it.

I also laugh every time the subtitles appear over John Paul II when he was actually giving a speech at St. Peter's. XD

Who else remembers where they were when you heard about this horrible event. I was watching after taking two hits of acid. I couldn't believe it. I just wanted to rush to New York to pay my respects to Buckwheat. But I was too wasted to drive. Then I forgot about it until the next week when the shooter was caught. I thought it was a bad acid flashback. But no, sadly, Buckwheat was dead. Oh well, that's my memory of it.

This gag was almost the whole show that night. They showed it after every break and different newscasters were being impersonated. They showed the video at least 20 times that night in various slow motion takes and it got sillier and sillier. At first he was injured, then as the show progressed he died. At school all the kids said that it was Eddie Murphy's way of saying that he was leaving SNL. It turned out not to be true because he stayed on for one more year. Eddie was SNL back then. I watched it only to see Eddie. He carried that show. I stopped watching it after he had left.

I was a weird kid, because Reagan getting shot didn't bother me even half as bad as John Lennon or Anwar Sadat, who both died and had done lots of work for world peace. Reagan only became interested in stopping nuclear war in his second term, because Gorbachev was getting all the media and public attention in America.
