Made To Measure
My Ruin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was born like this with hips like this
Lips like this and wrists like this
legs like this and arms like this
a fist like this to hit you with, now
you're like school on Sunday
You ain't got no class
You keep running your mouth but...
You can kiss my ass!

No made to measure baby
One size does not fit all
I will not be the one
You make to take the fall
[repeat]

I got the curves to fear, the words to feel
and when I scream I've heard them say
i've got the voice to heal
You don't need to be sorry
you don't have to be saved
You just need to be proud of the body that God gave

No made to measure baby
One size does not fit all
I will not be the one
You make to take the fall
[repeat]

listen to me say...yeah

I'm so fat I'm fucked up
I'm so skinny I'm sick
I'm tired of the magazines
Talkin that bullshit!
I'm not fat, they're fucked up
I'm not skinny, they're sick
I'm just tired of the critics who keep talking that bullshit

I was born like this with eyes like this
Teeth like this and thighs like this
A face like this, a waist like this
and when I die...I'll die like this...now
You're like school on Sunday
You ain't got no class
You keep running your mouth but
I just might kick your ass!

No made to measure baby
One size does not fit all
I will not be the one
You make to take the fall
[repeat]

Let me hear you say YEAH!
I'm so fat I'm fucked up
I'm so skinny I'm sick
I'm tired of the magazines
Talkin that bullshit!
I'm not fat, they're fucked up
I'm not skinny, they're sick
I'm just tired of the critics who keep talking that bullshit

NOW WHAT?-NOW WHAT?-NOW WHAT? What you gonna say next time you SEE US?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to My Ruin's song "Made to Measure" express themes of body positivity and self-acceptance. The lines "I was born like this with hips like this / Lips like this and wrists like this / legs like this and arms like this / a fist like this to hit you with" indicate that the singer is unapologetic for who she is, both physically and emotionally. She recognizes her curves and her strength, and is not afraid to assert herself against those who may try to criticize or belittle her. The chorus emphasizes that no one should feel pressured to conform to a certain standard or mold themselves into what others expect of them.

The verses continue to affirm the singer's confidence and resilience. She boasts "I got the curves to fear, the words to feel / and when I scream I've heard them say / i've got the voice to heal," highlighting her physical and emotional power. The lines "You don't need to be sorry / you don't have to be saved / You just need to be proud of the body that God gave" encourage listeners to reject shame and embrace self-love. The final repetition of the chorus is augmented by invocations to shout "Now what?" in defiance of those who try to bring her down.

I was born like this with hips like this Lips like this and wrists like this legs like this and arms like this a fist like this to hit you with, now you're like school on Sunday You ain't got no class You keep running your mouth but... You can kiss my ass!
I was born with my body like this - my hips, lips, wrists, legs, and arms are uniquely mine. If you try to insult me, your insults are not creative and I won't take them seriously.

No made to measure baby One size does not fit all I will not be the one You make to take the fall [repeat]
I refuse to conform to society's standards of what a woman's body should look like. I will not allow others to blame me for their insecurities.

I got the curves to fear, the words to feel and when I scream I've heard them say i've got the voice to heal You don't need to be sorry you don't have to be saved You just need to be proud of the body that God gave
My curves make some people jealous or afraid, but my words and my voice can help heal others. You don't need to pity me or try to save me - I just want people to be confident in the bodies they were born with, because they are gifts from a higher power.

I'm so fat I'm fucked up I'm so skinny I'm sick I'm tired of the magazines Talkin that bullshit! I'm not fat, they're fucked up I'm not skinny, they're sick I'm just tired of the critics who keep talking that bullshit
Magazines claim that anyone who doesn't look like a certain 'ideal' body type is either unhealthy or unattractive. But that's not true - those standards are unhealthy and unrealistic, and the critics who perpetuate them are the ones who are truly messed up.

I was born like this with eyes like this Teeth like this and thighs like this A face like this, a waist like this and when I die...I'll die like this...now You're like school on Sunday You ain't got no class You keep running your mouth but I just might kick your ass!
Just like the first verse, I was born with my body parts as they are, and I'll die with them this way too. You continue to insult me with no creativity and no boundaries, but if you keep it up I may have to get physical with you.

NOW WHAT?-NOW WHAT?-NOW WHAT? What you gonna say next time you SEE US? NOW WHAT?-NOW WHAT?-NOW WHAT? What you gonna say next time you SEE US?
After hearing all these lyrics that condemn body shaming and call out unrealistic expectations for how people should look, what are you going to say when you meet us in person?

I remember when they just came out performing and since I lived in Hollywood, I’d get to see them at the whisky, troubadour, etc. They were amazing then and still are. 😊🖤

@purple beagle I saw JoJ in the UK when they were support for someone I've forgotten but was never overly fond of. I actually went to the gig for the support only! lol I was too ill to see them during their reunion.

I've seen My Ruin& Tura Satana, once each, the latter when Tarrie had pneumonia. There was a guy in the audience being a sexist pig & she wiped the floor with him. That was in a place called Rio's in a neighbouring city, a brilliant venue which is closed down now. There's nowhere great for gigs any more in my area, imo. They're all ridiculously large & impersonal or too small to hold a decent sized audience. It's incredible for such a large city.
