Zazou - Reflected In The Eye Of A Dragonfly

Reflected in the eye of the dragonfly on the lunar pool
And we will sail away on oceans
And a haze of carillons and juniper
Spines from the great valley of humming gongs
On ships, that sail away forever

Unexplained light reflected from the spine of a metallic viper
I see your radiant kiss my lover
Strange rooms engulfed by an halo of alien architecture
Like sun across my eyes forever

And the dark gargoyle of dragonflies encased in sulfur
You will see me standing there my lover
Through a silent walk of flowered night shadows
Like trees against the sky forever

Then, an unexplained kiss from a lethal angel
And we will sail away on oceans

Reflected in the eye of the dragonfly on the lunar pool
On ships, that sail away forever

Overall Meaning

The song "Reflected in the Eye of a Dragonfly" by Harold Budd and Hector Zazou is a poetic and dreamlike piece that takes the listener on a journey through vivid, surrealistic imagery. The opening lines suggest a reflection of something beautiful and otherworldly within the eye of a dragonfly, perhaps a metaphor for the way that beauty and magic can be found in unexpected places. The idea of sailing away on oceans, accompanied by a haze of carillons and juniper, adds to the dreamlike quality of the song, suggesting a sense of escapism and possibility.

As the song progresses, the imagery becomes even more surreal and fantastical. There is the unexplained light reflected from the spine of a metallic viper, a radiant kiss from a lover, and strange rooms engulfed by an halo of alien architecture. The imagery suggests a sense of wonder and enchantment, but also a feeling of disorientation and uncertainty. The final lines of the song bring things back to the dragonfly, suggesting that the journey ends where it began, with the reflection in the creature's eye.

Overall, "Reflected in the Eye of a Dragonfly" is a deeply introspective and imaginative song that encourages the listener to lose themselves in its dreamlike atmosphere. The poetic nature of the lyrics invites multiple interpretations, but at its core, the song seems to be about the power of imagination and the ways in which we can transcend the limitations of mundane reality to find moments of beauty and magic.

“Like the sun across my eyes, forever.”

Harold Budd was a true poet. RIP King, music isn’t the same without you. Music as complex as humanity itself. Vaya con Dios, Harold, “on ships that sail away forever”

@STONEBEADMAKER Haven't heard "The opiates" yet, ill give it a try! TNX :) ps. agree on budd's review.

@pepijagarzekje

@STONEBEADMAKER well, I wouldn't call Cohen the former and Budd the latter, as I suspect you probably did. BUT the nuanced mood of this piece got me thinking - what does it remind me of. And after a brief contemplation I realized it's in a way similar to Nordic Quartet's tune "Traces". If you're not familiar with that record, you should definitely check it out: watch?v=CNo0sMmrI48
