Molly had her rip shirt
Suzy, she ripped her shirt off completely
Oh, Molly had her rip shirt
Oh, Molly had her rip shirt
Suzy, she ripped her shirt off completely
Then he poured the beer
Then he poured the beer all over Sally
Then he poured beer
Then he poured the beer all over Sally
Then he poured beer
Then he poured beer
Then he poured the beer all over Sally
Ah, ah
Buddy screamed so loud, he spit
Buddy screamed so loud, he spit
We all ran around the back yard
We all ran around
We all ran around the back yard
It was crazy clown time
Crazy clown time
It was crazy clown time
Crazy clown time
It was crazy clown time
It was real fun
Diddy and his hair,
Diddy and his hair
I'm fire! Oh, oh, oh!
Danny spit on Suzie
Bobby sat and drunk two beers
Kimmy jumped all around, so high
Oh, oh, oh!
Molly had her rip shirt
Suzie had hers off completely
Molly getting her rip shirt
Suzie had hers off completely
Danni poured beer all over
Bobby screams so loud and spit
Bobby screams so loud and spit
No one around
They all run around
They all run around
Oh, it's crazy clown town!
It was really fun!
It was real fun, oh!
David Lynch’s song “Crazy Clown Time” is a raucous and chaotic portrayal of a wild party. The lyrics present a series of disjointed vignettes that seem to occur simultaneously, painting a picture of a wild gathering characterized by drinking, dancing, and generally reckless behavior. The song opens with the repeated phrase “Molly had her rip shirt,” which is soon followed by the revelation that “Suzy…ripped her shirt off completely.” The song goes on to describe various other outrageous antics, including a man pouring beer on a woman named Sally, someone screaming so loudly they spit, and others running around the backyard. The chorus of the song cements the chaotic and surreal atmosphere, with repeated chants of “It was crazy clown time/It was real fun.”
Despite the seemingly nonsensical lyrics, there are a few possible interpretations of “Crazy Clown Time.” One possible reading is that the song is a satire or critique of the excesses of party culture, emphasizing the emptiness and depravity of such bacchanals. Another interpretation is that the song is an exercise in surrealism, with Lynch attempting to capture the disorienting and surreal experience of being at a wild party. Throughout the song, the imagery is vivid and sometimes surreal, with phrases like “Diddy and his hair” and “I’m fire!” contributing to the overall feeling of disorientation and sensory overload.

Yay! So glad to finally see it! I was the girl in the stripy shirt. And David Lynch was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Such an amazing experience. Love it or hate it, it is very Lynch.

Quite true! Agree to disagree.

I think they make completely different music, carpenter largely makes catchy badass music whereas lynch makes disorienting scary music. It like whether you prefer Verdi or Berlioz version of dies irae, it’s completely taste.(I personally prefer the latter.)

The best thing about anything Lynch does is that the result is polarizing. He aims very high attempting to create a special, specific mood, and he doesn't always hit the mark dead on-- it's testament to his exceptional talent that he ever hits it at all. Even his biggest fans (and I count myself among them) don't unilaterally love each and every thing he does. I happened to really like this-- the song more than the video-- but I can appreciate how well the video fits.
