Is That A Tear
Tracy Lawrence Lyrics

'Cause the last thing that I'd heard from her
Was she'd found Mr. Right
But when I came home this evening
There it was on my machine
Now I'm just wondering what the hell it means
[Chorus:]
She said she's sorry that she missed me
and she's been doing just fine
I've run it back and heard her say
Those words a hundred times
But something makes me wonder
Is she happy with her choice
or is that a tear I hear in her voice
___
The first time that I listened
I thought Boy she's got some nerve
But the second time I heard it
I heard more than just her words
Am I just wishful thinkin
or did her voice really crack
I'll never know if I don't call her back
(Repeat Chorus)
(Tag)
Oh is that a tear
Lord is that a tear I hear in her voice
Tracy Lawrenceβs βIs That A Tearβ is a country song that tells a story about a man who received a phone call from his ex-girlfriend, who claims to be doing just fine since their breakup. However, the man notices something odd about her call; he hears what he believes might be a tear in her voice. The man is doubtful of his interpretation but wonders if his ex-girlfriend is hiding her emotions and is not as happy in her current relationship as she claims to be. The song has a catchy tune, but its lyrics delve deeper into emotions and relationships.
The man in the song is conflicted. He wants to believe that his ex-girlfriend has moved on and is happy but cannot shake his doubts. He listens to her message over and over again, looking for signs that she might still have feelings for him. He wonders if he should call her back and find out what is really going on. The song ends with the man still unsure of what to do, haunted by the possibility that love might still be between them.
βIs That A Tearβ was released in 1996 as the second single from Tracy Lawrence's album βThe Coast Is Clearβ. It peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks Charts. It spent 20 weeks on the chart, becoming Lawrence's seventh top-ten hit. The album was certified gold by the RIAA in 1997. The song was written by John Jarrard and Gary Burr.
