When Christmas Comes To Town
Matthew Hall & Meagan Moore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm wishing on a star
And trying to believe
That even though it's far
He'll find me Christmas eve
I guess that Santa's busy
'Cause he's never come around
I think of him when Christmas comes to town

The best time of the year
When everyone comes home
With all this Christmas cheer
It's hard to be alone
Putting up the Christmas tree
With friends who come around
It's so much fun when Christmas comes to town

Presents for the children wrapped in red and green
All the things I've heard about but never really seen
No one will be sleeping on the night of Christmas eve
Hoping Santa's on his way

Presents for the children wrapped in red and green
All the things I've heard about but never really seen
No one will be sleeping on the night of Christmas eve
Hoping Santa's on his way

When Santa's sleigh bells ring
I listen all around
The herald angels sing
I never hear a sound
And all the dreams of children
Once lost will all be found
That's all I want when Christmas comes to town
That's all I want when Christmas comes to town

Overall Meaning

The song "When Christmas Comes to Town" by Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore is a heartwarming tribute to the joy, magic, and wonder of the Christmas season. The opening lines of the song describe the childlike sense of anticipation and hope that many of us feel leading up to Christmas day. The singer sings of wishing on a star and believing in the magic of Christmas and Santa Claus, even though it all seems so far away. He longs for the chance to experience the joy and wonder of the season firsthand, and hopes that Santa will find him on Christmas Eve.

As the song progresses, the singer describes the excitement and energy of Christmastime, when everyone returns home to celebrate with loved ones. The chorus speaks to the fun and camaraderie that comes with decorating the Christmas tree with friends and family. The song takes on a more wistful tone in the second verse, as the singer thinks about all the things he's heard about Christmas but never really experienced for himself. He dreams of the presents, the festive colors of red and green, and the thrill of waiting for Santa's arrival on Christmas Eve.

The final verse of the song brings everything together, describing the moment when Santa's sleigh bells ring and the herald angels sing. The singer listens intently, hoping to hear the sound of Santa's arrival. In this moment, he imagines all the dreams of children coming true, and all the lost magic of the season being found once again. Overall, "When Christmas Comes to Town" is a beautiful song about the timeless wonder and excitement of the holiday season, and the hope and joy it brings to people of all ages.

how many of us who grew up with this movie can proudly say they would still be able to hear the bell ring if it was real? because i know i could still hear it

@Howrselover01201

Yesss!

@IgnoretheButter

Considering I don't believe in Santa, I guess I wouldn't hear it... at the same time I still have that Christmas spirit in which I wake up at 5am on Christmas and get excited, though I'm 20 years old.... does that mean I'd hear the bell?,

@evergreenmcculloch4398

I truly believe I would be able to hear it

@Jermaine22294

I just bought the Blu-Ray DVD of this yesterday and watched everything on it and the movie itself. Love this movie 20 out of 10. I'll be watching this outside of Christmas time as well

@rezalzalahmusic7605

@@IgnoretheButter oh yeah man, you'd hear it. I'm certain that its an allegory for the fact that even though we do grow and make believe seems to go away, so long as the christmas spirit remains, you still get the joy — or as the movie depicts it, you still hear the bell.
