In the opening lines of Drake's “Over My Dead Body,” he mentions a feeling that doesn't matter but he assures the listener that he's okay. However, he responds to his own inquiry by wondering why he bothers to worry when he knows he's the same old Drake. Furthermore, he acknowledges that his lover doesn't love him anymore, and he feels like the people in the industry are trying to take her away from him. He emphatically states that it's only over his dead body that they can have her.

Drake shows his range in this verse by switching the main topic from himself to his competition in the next section.
