Haikuesque
Bibio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When she laughs
The piano in the hall
Plays a quiet note

Waterfalls
Turning gentle into rough
Then gentle again

Morning dew
Washes yesterday's garden
Ready for today

Rocking chair
Is still without a rocker
But is still a chair

When she laughs
The piano in the hall
Resonates a note.

Waterfalls
Turning gentle into rough
Then gentle again

Morning dew
Washes yesterday's garden
Ready for today

Rocking Chair
Is still without a rocker
But is still a chair

When she laughs
The piano in the hall
Plays a quiet note

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bibio's "Haikuesque" are filled with vivid imagery that evoke the beauty and simplicity of daily life. The first stanza talks about how the sound of a piano playing a soft note in the hallway is heightened when the woman in question laughs. The gentle sound of the piano becomes resonant, as if her laughter brings out a hidden beauty in the music.

The second stanza compares the flow of waterfalls to the ebb and flow of emotions - sometimes gentle, sometimes rough, but always moving. It is a beautiful metaphor for the natural and cyclical nature of emotions and situations in our lives.

The third stanza paints an image of the morning dew unobtrusively washing away the marks of yesterday's garden, implying a fresh start for today. It serves as a reminder that the cycle of life is continuous, and it follows a pattern.

The last stanza highlights a rocking chair that is still a chair, even without the rocking feature. It is a testament to how something can still have value and purpose, even when it's incomplete.

Overall, the lyrics of Bibio's "Haikuesque" instill a sense of beauty in the simple and mundane things in life. It reminds us that even the smallest moments of our lives are worth celebrating and cherishing.

This is probably widely known, but I just realized this song is written in modern haiku form. Traditional haiku is 17 syllables. Modern English haiku is 10-14 syllables, which is what Bibio is doing every 3 lines. It's ALMOST full haiku, which is I guess why he called it HaikuESQUE. I always thought he was saying her laugh was haikuesque.
I love Bibio.

Aaaah! You cannot deny how awesome, beautiful, simple and laid back this song is. Bibio is the best. I can chill out, break down and cry, or get motivated just from listening to any of his songs. He's super versatile too. That's how music is supposed to be.

God there was an old flash loop that I first found this song from. Looked like an animated manga page. Pretty girl sitting playing a stringed instrument of some kind I think for someone else.

I can't find it, but God the vibes on it.
