Protest and survive
The lyrics to Discharge's song "Protest and Survive" speak to the urgency of protesting against the destruction of humanity, and at the same time, encouraging listeners to continue fighting for survival. The opening line, "The savage mutilation of the human race is set on course," is a powerful message, indicating that something terrible is already underway. The words imply that some people may be ignorant or apathetic towards the situation, but it is vital to act and fight back.
The chorus, "Protest and survive, Protest and survive," is repeated over and over again, driving home the urgency of the message. Protest, in this sense, means to stand against those who would harm us, to call out the injustice and inequality, and hold those in power accountable. The song is a call to arms for listeners, encouraging them to join in the fight for survival.
Overall, "Protest and Survive" is a powerful protest song that encourages action and speaks directly to the urgency of the situation. It calls on listeners to be proactive, and not wait for others to take the lead. The song's message is as important today as it was when Discharge first recorded it in the 1980s, serving as a rallying cry for those fighting against all forms of oppression.
