Oh What A Beautiful Morning
[THEATRE] Lyrics

There's a bright golden haze on the meadow
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbing clear up in the sky
Oh, what a beautiful mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day
I got a beautiful feelin'
All the cattle are standin' like statues
All the cattle are standin' like statues
They don't turn their heads as they see me ride by
But a little brown maverick is winkin' her eye
Oh, what a beautiful mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day
I got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way
All the sounds of the earth are like music
All the sounds of the earth are like music
The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree
And an old weepin' willer is laughin' at me
Oh, what a beautiful mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day
I got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way
The lyrics of the song 'Oh What A Beautiful Morning' are poetic and metaphorical, painting a vivid picture of a peaceful, beautiful morning on the farm. The first few lines introduce the beautiful scenery, with a golden haze covering the meadow and the corn stalks reaching high up into the sky. The imagery is so vivid that you can almost feel the warmth of the sun and see the plants swaying in the gentle breeze.
The next stanza compares the cattle to statues, standing motionless as the singer rides by on his horse. However, a little brown maverick catches his eye, winking mischievously at him. This line could be interpreted as a metaphor for the singer breaking free from the monotony of his routine and finding excitement in unexpected places.
In the final stanza, the lyrics take on a more spiritual tone, as the singer describes the sounds of the earth as being like music. Even the breeze is personified, described as being so busy that it doesn't miss a tree. The old weeping willow tree adds to the peaceful atmosphere, seemingly laughing at the singer with joy.
Overall, the song creates a serene and picturesque atmosphere, capturing the essence of a beautiful morning in the countryside.

Three days after Oklahoma opened, Oscar Hammerstein was in a ground floor hotel room in NY. He had the window a little open to get air and he woke up to children singing "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning....." He says it was the most deeply satisfying moment of his professional life. The song had spread that fast, even children were singing it.
