Last Name

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Last night, I got served, a little bit too much of that poison baby
Last night, I did things I'm not proud of, and I got a little crazy
Last night, I met a guy on the dance floor, and I let him call me 'baby'

And I don't even know his last name
My momma would be so ashamed
It started out "hey cutie, where you from?"
Then it turned into "oh no! what have I done?"
And I don't even know his last name

He left, the club, about around three o'clock in the morning
His Pinto, is sitting there in the parking lot, when it should of been a warning
I had no clue, what I was getting into, so I blame it on the Cuervo
Oh where did my manners go

And I don't even know his last name
My momma would be so ashamed
It started off "hey cutie, where you from?"
And then it turned into "oh no! what have I done?"
And I don't even know his last name, oh here we go

Today, I woke up, thinkin' 'bout Elvis, somewhere in Vegas I'm not sure
How I got here, or how this ring on my left hand just appeared
Outta nowhere, I gotta go, take the chips, and the Pinto, and hit the road
They say what happens here, stays here,
All of this will disappear, but there's just one little problem

I don't even know my last name
My momma would be so ashamed
It started off "hey cutie, where you from?"
And then it turned into "oh no! what have I done?"
And I don't even know my last name

What have I done, what have I done, what have I done
Well what have I done, I don't even know my last name
And it turned into "oh no! what have I done?"
And I don't even know my last name

It started off "hey cutie, where you from?"

And then it turned into "oh no! what have I done?"
And I don't even know my last name

Overall Meaning

The song "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood is a story about a wild night that the singer had, where she consumed too much alcohol and ended up doing things that she is not proud of. She met a guy on the dance floor and let him call her 'baby,' but she didn't even bother to learn his last name. The next morning, she woke up in Vegas with a ring on her finger and no memory of how she got there. She has no idea what she has done and doesn't even know her last name.

This song is all about taking risks and living life to the fullest. It tells the story of a young woman who is willing to let go of her inhibitions and experience the excitement of the unknown. However, it also is a cautionary tale about the dangers of drinking too much and letting yourself go too far.

The song shows the vulnerability of the singer who doesn't even know her last name, let alone the name of the person she spent the night with. The song expresses the theme of recklessness and the price one must pay for not being careful in relationships. Ultimately, it's about self-awareness and reflection, where the singer wonders what she has done, being unable to remember her wild night entirely.

I don't get how people don't get the line, "Don't even know my last name." She hinted they got married that night. She didn't know his last name yet when they got married she took that name. So after they became husband and wife she didn't know what her last name was.

@19FedeMr

omg i have been listening to this hit for years and I have just realized that!! O.O lol. Well, in some sense she might have forgotten her own last name because she drank José Cuervo like crazy lol (she blamed the Cuervo remember? lol)
