Arabrot first received widespread recognition with the Steve Albini produced third album, The Brother Seed (2009). Following this album, Arabrot went into a creative blaze the succeeding years. For instance, they did live scores at silent film showings (“Faust” from 1926 in Trondheim, “Häxan” from 1922 at Øyafestivalen, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” from 1920 and “Die Nibelungen” from 1924 at Verdensteatret in Tromsø) and did commissioned work for the highly regarded Henie Onstad Kunstsenter. In the middle of all this, Arabrot produced the exploratory EPs AbsoluteNegativism, I Rove and Mæsscr, two albums under the Nernes Skagen moniker, as well as two stand out albums: The gargantuan Billy Anderson-produced double album REVENGE and the needle-sharp Solar Anus, again featuring Steve Albini as a producer.
Arabrot’s flourishing lyricism adds an unmatched depth. Macabre renditions of classic works like the Bible and Dante’s Inferno meet philosophical themes derived from the historical avant-garde. The existentialism of Camus and Sartre; the surrealism of Bataille and Lautréamont; the eroticism of Henry Miller and de Sade; the romantic writings of Coleridge, Poe and de Quincey; mystic thinkers such as Aleister Crowley and Jorge Luis Borges, oppositionals like Féderico Lorca and of course Norway’s chief contrarian Jens Bjørneboe all make their way into Arabrot’s unique character.
Arabrot’s much anticipated self-titled sixth album, with stone cold artwork by Johannes Høie, was released in August 2013. Following a summer-long battle with throat cancer, Arabrot's main man Kjetil Nernes emerged victorious and released the mini-album "I Modi" in 2014, a companion release to Okkultokrati's third album "Night Jerks".

Årabrot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Places no one's ever been to
Young dreams slowly realise
at unthinkable speed
without any doubt
We're in motion without moving
We are shining without light
We are flowers without blooming
Everything is now before me
In the song "Hallucinational" by Årabrot, the lyrics paint a picture of a future full of untapped possibilities and unexplored territories. The opening line, "There's a future on the rise," sets the tone for the rest of the song, conveying a sense of optimism and anticipation. The lyrics suggest that there are places waiting to be discovered, experiences waiting to be had, and dreams that are slowly being realized.
The subsequent line, "Young dreams slowly realize at unthinkable speed," speaks to the rapid pace at which these dreams are becoming a reality. It implies that these aspirations are no longer confined to the realm of imagination but are materializing at an astonishing rate. The phrase "without any doubt" further emphasizes the certainty and confidence with which this future is unfolding.
The next set of lyrics, "We're in motion without moving, we are shining without light, we are flowers without blooming, we are thinking without minds," conveys a sense of paradoxical existence. It suggests that despite not physically moving or emitting light, there is a profound sense of progress and brilliance. The reference to flowers without blooming implies a potential for growth and beauty in an unconventional manner. Lastly, the line "Everything is now before me" emphasizes the immediacy and accessibility of these dreams and experiences. It suggests that the future holds limitless opportunities, waiting to be seized and appreciated.
Overall, the lyrics of "Hallucinational" offer a poetic portrayal of a future filled with untapped potential, rapid realization of dreams, and a sense of existing in paradoxical states.
