Annie
ղķÊ˲¼ÀÊÌØJames Blunt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Annie, you had your name in the bright lights
I thought I saw your photograph
having such a laugh, in a magazine
Did it all come tumbling?

Then Annie, you were made for the big time
They said you were a star to be
In the NME
But the walls came tumbling down
Down
Will you go down on me?

Cause Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Annie, would it be nice to be recognized?
Did you practice your autograph?
But now no ones asked
And it's such a shame
Your dreams are crumbling

Annie, why aren't you big in limelight?
Cause I thought that you said you'd be
A celebrity several years ago
But it all came tumbling down
Down
Will you go down on me?

Cause Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name
And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Annie you're a star
You're just not going very far
And all the world will know your name

And you'll be famous as you are
Cause I'll sing for you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Annie by James Blunt tell the story of a person who some years ago was a rising star in the limelight. They were featured in magazines and had a promising future, but it all came crashing down, and now they're struggling to reach the same heights again. The song is a melancholy reflection on the fleeting nature of fame as the singer watches Annie's dreams come tumbling down. The lyrics are full of poignant questions, like "Did it all come tumbling?" and "Why aren't you big in limelight?".

The chorus repeats the words "Annie, you're a star / You're just not going very far" over and over again. It's a bittersweet tribute to the elusive nature of fame and the fragility of dreams. The singer promises to continue to sing for Annie, despite her loss of fame. The song's melody is equally emotional, starting out slow and mournful, building to a hopeful crescendo, then fading back into the melancholy notes of the verses.

It always amazes me how Aileen Quinn looked like a completely different kid when she was not dressed as Annie. She got some kind of Raspberry award for acting but I think she was a phenomenal actress. In interviews of her with her long hair she was absolutely nothing like Annie, just like any other kid. Somehow on screen she was an absolute superstar with her exuberance, her gestures, gestures, and dance movements.

I’m a young marine . And I have parents, but I often think of myself as one of the orphans in this movie. All of us hate our lives and each other to a Degree, and we work and wear the same uniform ;but we still tolerate each other and love each other . The dynamic the orphans and military members have is absolutely uncanny . Leaving the military for most people is like leaving the orphanage . Some look back and some do not . Thanks for reading :)

Update: I’m now 24 and the relationship between me and my family is rocky because of many things now. But this movie hits more after understanding my own adoption and knowing why i have that fighting spirit. I cry watching this movie no matter how old i get. It will forever mean so much to me.

This was an all time favorite as a child. Now my 3 year old twin girls absolutely love every second of this movie.
