↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓ Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of ゲロ by ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓ delve into themes of rebellion against societal norms, authenticity, and the idea of not conforming to mainstream expectations. The song starts with a personal experience where the singer is scolded for leaving food in his school lunch tray. This incident prompts the questioning of whether those who reprimand him actually care about his well-being or if they are just enforcing arbitrary rules. The lyrics depict a clash between the singer's dislike for certain things being forced upon him and the dichotomy between conventional speech and unconventional actions.
The chorus emphasizes the idea that if something is enjoyable or beneficial, it is worth indulging in, regardless of societal taboos or restrictions. This notion is reiterated through the repetition of "うまけりゃ食う" (if it's good, eat it) in the song. It suggests a sense of defiance against expectations and a desire to live authentically without being confined by external judgment or standards.
The following verses explore the concept of expressing oneself honestly and unapologetically. The lines "まずけりゃ吐くぜ 遠慮なく吐くぜ" (if it's bad, vomit it out without hesitation) convey a sense of rawness and directness in communication. The singer is unafraid to voice their discomfort or dissatisfaction and prefers to be straightforward in their interactions, even if it goes against social conventions.
The imagery in the lyrics portrays a sense of contrast between the external facade of cleanliness and orderliness, as symbolized by the sushi chef and the sanitized environment, and the internal turmoil and messiness within the individual. The mention of soiling one's body and soul, as well as the act of laughing while clutching one's stomach, hints at a deeper existential struggle and a disconnect between appearances and reality. Ultimately, the song seems to advocate for embracing one's true self, unapologetically expressing one's feelings, and rejecting societal pressures to conform.
