Da Hui
♫The Offspring [2003 - Splinter] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I won't fuck with da Hui
I won't fuck with da Hui
I won't fuck with da Hui
Because da Hui will fuck with me

I won't take off on da Hui
I won't take off on da Hui
I won't take off on da Hui
Because da Hui will fuck with me

A haole with heart, that's all I'll ever be
'Cause I'm not a part of the North Shore society
Stuck on the shoulder, that's where you'll find me
Digging for scraps with the kooks in line!

I won't park next to da Hui I won't park next to da Hui I won't park next to da Hui Because I don't really feel comfortable

A haole with heart, that's all I'll ever be
'Cause I'm not a part of the North Shore royalty
Stuck on the shoulder, I'm not complaining
Digging for scraps I'm a kook in line!

A haole with heart, that's all I'll ever be
'Cause I'm not a part of the North Shore society
Stuck on the shoulder, that's where you'll find me
Digging for scraps with the kooks in line!

Don't fuck with da Hui
Don't fuck with da Hui

Don't fuck with da Hui
Because da Hui will fuck with you!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Da Hui by The Offspring tell a story of a non-local (haole) surfer on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii where da Hui, a local surf club, holds a powerful presence. The song is about the respect and fear that haole surfers have for da Hui and the local surfing community. The chorus repeats the phrase "I won't fuck with da Hui," emphasizing the need for haole surfers to understand and respect the power dynamics that exist on the North Shore. The lyrics underscore the message that if a haole disrespects da Hui or the local community, they can suffer the consequences.

The second verse highlights the haole surfer's outsider status as part of the North Shore society. The line "Stuck on the shoulder, that's where you'll find me" is a reference to the surfers who lack the skill or standing to surf the bigger waves on the main break, and are relegated to surfing on the shoulder of the waves. The lyric "Digging for scraps with the kooks in line" further highlights the haole's outsider status, as a kook is a non-skilled or inexperienced surfer. The song ends with the warning to "not fuck with da Hui," reminding the listener that the local community holds the power and haole surfers must respect the dynamics that exist.

Excellent !!!

I've always been fond of Jean Reno. This has sparked my want to learn French.

Sad you don't have more views. I like this movie a lot, also the sequel. they were on Australian television i think late 90's or early 2000, with subtitles. I don't speak any french but i have been there (german family), and i feeeeeel the comedy coming out. some jokes are lost in translation and culture but still very enjoyable. great viewing with family.
i can't find where to get english subs for the whole movie

Salut!
