The song Labyrinth by Oomph! talks about being trapped in personal demons and mental instability. I see comments on here saying that it's not impressive because it has no story , and that if the person makes an amv with a story that means they have skill.
To those people, that is stupid. This amv was made for an artistic purpose, not a story. Comparing this to a story driven amv is like comparing a story to an art piece. It's like saying an artist has no skill simply because the artwork doesnt tell a story, even if the technical detail is amazing.
Editing and artistic compositing, as well as having an eye for aesthetic and colorization, are separate skills to story boarding. People are good in one thing and may not be good in another. Just because someone is artistically skilled doesnt mean they need to be skilled in story boarding. It doesnt make their effort in editing any less impressive and doesnt belittle their skill.
I'm not good at story boarding, but I am decent at editing. It would simply be a bonus if I was good at story boarding.
Editing itself takes a lot patience , experimentation, accuracy and technicality. Being able to storyboard just a bonus and will ultimately boost the outcome of a project , IF the desired outcome is a story.
There are projects made solely for the technical and aesthetic aspect of making a video. Similar to how some games are simply showcases. Made to show off the beauty of what the can do artistically with the visuals for the game.
Comparing this to story driven amvs , basically, is stupid. Maybe you could judge if the purpose of this amv is a story, but its not. Think of this as a showcase rather than a full fledge story driven amv. They are two separate categories on their own.
You shouldnt compare this to those kind of amvs, because their purposes are completely different. The creators had way different things in mind. I'm more of a artistic person myself and dont pay attention to story much. To me, this Is a masterpiece and I love it.
