Kawashima Eigo began his career as a musician while the 1970s together with ホモ・サピエンス (Homo Sapiens). After they broke up he started his solo career. 酒と泪と男と女 (sake to namida to otoko to onna - Sake (alcohol) and tears and man and woman) is Kawashima Eigos most famous song. This song was coverd by 萩原健一 (Hagiwara Ken'ichi) and which was played at various music TV programms, but at the same time Kawashima Eigos version became more famous all over Japan, because it was used by a Sake producer from Kyoto as a TV commercial song.
Other famous songs are 野風増, 時代おくれ and 生きてりゃいいさ.

河島英五さん、目がきれいで笑顔が優しそうで素敵でしたね。
嘘のない人柄だったのでしょうね。そういう河島英五さんに「くよくよするなよ。」と歌ってもらったら、頑張ろうと思いますね。
もっと生きてほしかったですが、河島さんの妻が「よく、あれだけ生きたと思う。」とコメントしていた。それほど弱く繊細だったということと聞きました。

40年ほど前の全学連の集会にゲストで来てくれて、この曲を聴かせて頂いた。
途中、演奏中に、わざとか知らないけど1弦が切れた。でも御大は演奏を続けた。
2弦3弦と順番弦を切りながら演奏を続けて、
最後は6弦まで切った。
小生の心に、特に印象に残ったのは、弦を切りながら歌ってた、「くよくよするなよ」の歌詞。
小生の人生でくよくよしてた時、よくこの演奏を思い出す。
この演奏が小生の救いになるときもあれば、正直どうにもならない時があるのは現実。
けどあの時の御大の演奏は心に、印象に残ってる。少しは小生が落ち込んだ時の救いになっている。
あの時、御大に、本当に魂のこもった、最高の演奏を聴かせていただいたのが、
小生にとって、今までと、これからの人生の、大事な財産だと思う。
本当は長生きしてほしかったけど、今でもYoutubeで聴ける小生は幸せなのかも知れない・・。
