Midori no Mado
石井竜也 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to 石井竜也's song Midori no Mado are a nostalgic reminiscence of the memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who grew up and spent time in a particular school. The opening line, "みんな必ず 忘れないよ" ("Everyone will never forget"), sets the tone for the rest of the song, which talks about the memories that the singer shares with others.
The image of the "そよかぜ吹いて ゆれる緑の窓" ("green window swaying in the gentle breeze") sets the scene of the singer looking back at the school and the memories he associates with it. The lines that follow talk about saying goodbye to different parts of the school: "校庭もプールも さよならだね" ("Goodbye to the schoolyard and the pool"), "鉄棒も廊下も さよならだね" ("Goodbye to the monkey bars and the hallway"). But despite saying goodbye to these physical places, the singer acknowledges that "思い出だけは 決して消えないんだ" ("Memories, however, will never disappear"), emphasizing the lasting impact of the experiences shared in the school.
As the song progresses, the singer bids farewell to the school and the memories it holds on behalf of all his friends who also share these memories. He closes with the final line, "さようなら この景色" ("Goodbye, this scenery"), encapsulating the emotion in the lyrics and perhaps expressing his reluctance to leave the past and the happiness it holds behind.
