The song "Koi Azami," or "Love Thistle" in English, is a poignant expression of pain and heartbreak. The opening lyrics, "Even though we love each other, there's nothing we can do about this day, which is a dead end" suggest that despite the singer's feelings of love towards the other person, their relationship has reached an impasse from which there can be no resolution. The phrase "anata yue" implies that the cause of this deadlock is the other person themselves; they are the only memories the singer has left, and because of this, they cannot move on.

The lyrics go on to describe the singer's position as a bar hostess, or "sakaba no koi azami." This phrase is metaphorical, using the image of the love thistle, a weed that springs up wild in empty fields and is often seen as a nuisance, to describe the singer's own situation. Her feelings are a burden, a thorn in her own side that must be endured. She compares herself to a flower that blooms only at night and is gone by morning, something brief and sad. She asks the other person not to give her kind words, because they will just make her cry. Her longing for him is so strong that she can't bear to hear his affection; it only makes the pain worse. In the end, she says that she drinks not to forget love, but rather to forget the bitterness of it. This too is a sad statement; the singer cannot forget what has happened, only numb the pain.
