Utaenakatta Love Song
Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of 織田裕二's song Utaenakatta Love Song follows the story of the singer reminiscing his college years, specifically his final seminar class where he and his classmates counted the remaining days until graduation while sweating. Amidst the excitement of graduation and job hunting, the singer couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by his own thoughts and emotions. The sound of his classmates boasting their connections for job opportunities made him contemplate his own position in life. The two lovers who used to be happy became unhappy due to the pressure around them. The song's lyrics describe the singer's desire to sing a love song that he couldn't sing before. In the chorus, the singer invites the listener to give a '90s love song to the tears that have disappeared, and to sing a love song they couldn't sing before.
The second verse tells us about the current situation of the singer. It appears that he is still in search of something meaningful in his life. He feels that he is being pushed around amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. He desires to scream in frustration in the middle of the city crowds. Despite the chaos, he invites us again to give a '90s love song to his dazzling eyes that have long gone, and to sing a love song that he couldn't sing before. The last line of the song reminds us that with every hurt and sorrow that we experience, we learn more about ourselves, and it will help us realize what is essential in our lives.
Overall, the song is about discovering purpose and appreciating the moments that have passed while holding on to memories that help us realize what is truly essential in life.
