Slow Dancing In A Burning Room
约翰梅尔John Mayer Lyrics

It's not a silly little moment
It's not the storm before the calm
This is the deep and dyin' breath of
This love we've been workin' on

Can't seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms
Nobody's gonna come and save you
We pulled too many false alarms

We're goin' down
And you can see it too
We're goin' down
And you know that we're doomed
My dear
We're slow dancing in a burnin' room

I was the one you always dreamed of
You were the one I tried to draw
How dare you say it's nothing to me
Baby, you're the only light I ever saw

I'll make the most of all the sadness
You'll be a bitch because you can
You try to hit me, just hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
'Cause you can't understand

We're goin' down
And you can see it too
We're goin' down
And you know that we're doomed
My dear
We're slow dancing in a burnin' room

Go cry about it, why don't you
Go cry about it, why don't you
Go cry about it, why don't you
My dear, we're slow dancin' in a burnin' room
Burnin' room, burnin' room
Don't you think we outta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we outta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?

Don't you think we outta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" by John Mayer depict a relationship that is coming to an end. The singer explains that this is not just a small argument or a rough patch, but this is the final breath of the love they have worked hard on. Mayer expresses his desire to hold onto his partner and keep them close, but he knows that their relationship is doomed, and nobody can save them. They have already pulled too many false alarms before, and now they must face the inevitable: they are going down.

The lyrics become more intense as the song progresses, with Mayer singing about the pain and hurt caused by his partner's actions. He acknowledges that they were once each other's dreams but now it seems they have each become a nightmare for one another. Mayer is resigned to the fact that his partner is going to hurt him and tries to make the most of the sadness, while his partner is filled with so much anger and negativity that she is only focused on hurting him, leaving him feeling "dirty".

The chorus is where the song title is mentioned, with Mayer describing their relationship as slowly burning down, as they continue to dance in a room engulfed with flames. The repetition of "slow dancing in a burning room" further emphasizes the feeling of helplessness and the inevitability of their relationship's end. The final lines of the song express a sense of frustration, as Mayer questions why they haven't learned their lesson by now.

Special thanks to PRS Guitars for sending me out a Silver Sky SE for this video! I was blown away when I first plugged this guitar in. It came to me already intonated, had perfect action, and sounded like a million bucks. It really made me want to dig in to those bluesy bends, especially in the outro solo. Mayer himself is correct in mentioning that you can really hear the high frequencies of this instrument when you play the lower notes and that’s what makes it such a great instrument.

This video is my interpretation of the Live in LA version of this song. I checked out hand positionings and everything from the videos. This is how I believed he played it. An isolated guitar track would have helped me more but there isn’t really one out there that separates the guitar well from everything else going on in the mix. The production of this tune was just amazing and no wonder it gets the recognition it rightfully deserves. Such a great song.

I’ve been listening to all of your requests and I am working each day to get them in on this page. Are there any more John Mayer songs that you would like to see here? Leave a comment below!

@3ThatONEGuy5

Great video as always. The most reliable tabs on the internet. I have a request, could we get the John Mayer cover of “Human Nature”?

@offline-404

Awesome transcription! 👏🌟 I have a request but not a John Mayer song, please could you make a tutorial on dolly dagger by Jimi Hendrix(https://youtu.be/-E2A60WslXg)? There aren't many good tutorials on it with tabs.

@3ThatONEGuy5

If not that one then “Belief” but the Pinkpop 2014 version.

@etherna4124

Of course more John Mayer's song would be awesome ! (special mention for "wait until tomorrow" in TRY! live, such a nice solo or more recently "Last train home" from Sob Rock)

@lamoshenka

Amazing!
