Formed in 2004 in New York, they started out with three members, but eventually drifted apart, leaving frontman 조휴일(Cho Hyu-Il, also Bryan Cho) as the sole member. Making his way back to Korea in 2006, 조휴일 undertook the entire production process into his own hands, writing songs in between performing at Hongdae clubs. Making his way back to the US in the hopes of releasing an album, he started his recording in the studio.
In 2008, on 조휴일's return to Korea, 검정치마 released its first album, "201", on the indie record label RubySalon. It proved to be a big hit in the Korean indie scene, hitting 10,000 copies in sales and earning the band the 2009 Korea Music Award (the Korean equivalent of the Grammy) for 'Best modern rock album'. 검정치마 was also nominated for "Best modern rock single", "Album of the year", "Song of the year", and "Newbie of the year".
검정치마 parted with its label, RubySalon, in January 2010, along with Galaxy Express and Telepathy. A remastered special edition of their debut album, "201" is currently being distributed by Sony. 조휴일 is currently taking a break from touring to work on 검정치마's next album.
Keyboardist Im Yoojin (임유진), with the band from 2008 to 2010, went solo in 2011 as Neon Bunny (야광토끼).

검정치마 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
oh, look at em go baby
oh, look at em go
oh, look at em go baby go
항상 나는 너무 쉽게 버림받곤 해
손만 놔도 금방 날아가 버리고
하지만 괜찮아 새로울 것도 없잖아
it's you and me and no one else
oh baby, 내 노래가 멈춘 뒤엔 모두 떠나가고
또 너와 나 둘만 남겠지
oh, look at em go baby
oh, look at em go
oh, look at em go baby go
The lyrics of Confetti and Balloons by 검정치마 express the desire to preserve a relationship in its original state regardless of the changes that may occur over time. The persona declares that they do not want to change anything and would rather leave everything as it is, including the regrets and disappointments they may have faced. The lyrics suggest a longing to relive the early days of the relationship, as they plead for their partner to stay by their side just as they were from the beginning. There is a sense of contentment even in the midst of an uncertain future, as the persona states that they will not be too sad even on the day when the last firework explodes.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "oh, look at em go" several times, emphasizing the idea of watching others move on while the persona and their partner remain together. The second verse acknowledges the persona's fear of being easily replaced by others, but they reassure themselves that the lack of novelty is not necessarily a bad thing since they only have each other. The song's overall message is one of acceptance and gratitude for what they have, finding comfort in the simple fact that they still have something real and valuable despite everything else that may have changed.
