The band was formed by rapper Jared Gomes, also known as "M.C.U.D." (MC Underdog), and guitarist Wes Geer, who became friends amidst the Orange County hardcore punk scene. Gomes and Geer recruited guitarist Chizad, bassist Mawk, drummer B.C. Vaught and DJ Product © 1969. They named the group "Hed", which stands for "higher education". The band built a following with their energetic performances at local venues, and released the self-financed extended play, Church of Realities. Legal issues forced Hed to change their name, adding PE, which stood for Planet Earth.

He wants to take her out of the darkness and into the light. He feels that he understands her completely and has read her like a book. He goes on to describe how he found Sophia on the internet while he was lost in the desert, and now that he has found her, he is ready to leave behind the one-percent lifestyle and embrace the ninety-nine percent. He believes that Sophia is too good for him, but he wants to be with her nonetheless.
The next verse speaks to the challenges faced by the singer and Sophia. High society doesn't believe that she is right for him, and they have denied her entry into the university. However, he believes that they belong together and no one has the right to keep them apart. He urges Sophia to walk with him through the cold dark center of the mystery and promises to break the code if she turns the key.
