Tangled
-Maroon 5 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For all the things that I have done and said
And I don't know if it'll ever be okay to show
My face around here
Sometimes I wonder if I disappear
Would you ever turn your head and look
To see if I'm gone
There is nothing left to say to you
That you want to hear
That you want to know
I think I should go
The things I've done are way too shameful
You're just an innocent
A helpless victim of a spider's web
And I'm an insect
Going after anything that I can get
So you'd better turn your head and run
And don't look back
'Cause I fear
There is nothing left to say to you
That you want to hear
That you want to know
I think I should go
The things I've done are way too shameful
And I have done you so wrong
Treated you bad
Strung you along
Oh, shame on myself
I don't know how I got so tangled up
Mmm, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, you'd better turn your head and run
See if I'm gone
'Cause I fear
There is nothing left to say to you
That you want to hear
That you want to know
I think I should go
The things I've done are way too shameful
And I have done you so wrong
Treated you bad
Strung you along
Oh, shame on myself
I don't know how I got so tangled up
(Strung you along
(Oh, shame on myself)
(I don't know how I got so tangled up)

You look so great but in a way that makes me want to fight you for fun. It's conflict-oriented eroticism.

Fun fact: I LIVED this. Right when Tangled came out, my family went to the theater to see it together, but I was running a little late and arrived exactly at the point when we first see Rapunzel in the tower. And I had a totally different experience from everyone else watching the movie. I wasn't super familiar with the original fairy tale, and I legitimately thought that Gothel was Rapunzel's mom. I knew she wasn't very nice, but I also knew this was a Disney movie, so I thought that the mom was going to eventually come to realize that she'd been overprotecting her daughter and that Rapunzel needed to experience the world, despite its dangers. So when Gothel was revealed to be evil, I was shocked! I felt like I was going through the same experience as Rapunzel and really keenly understood the betrayal she was feeling.
In short, I agree with you. I think my experience watching this movie was better because I didn't watch the first five minutes.
