Stepping back without an arm
Checking every corner
Of your own front lawn
Oh, take a look around it's dog eat dog
Never show a weakness
Got to do the best you can
To your fellow man
Oh, all is coming down to dog eat dog
Oh, all is coming down to dog eat dog
If you find yourself in trouble
Your tail between your legs
The lights begin to dim
You might as well be dead
Oh, it's dog eat dog
Call for reinforcement
The best is yet to come
Oh, by then you'll know the rules
Dog eat dog
Oh, when all is coming it's dog eat dog
None is immortal, heads up high
Even if you go down, it's dog eat dog
Oh, all is coming down to dog eat dog
Oh, all is coming down to dog eat dog
The lyrics of "Dog Eat Dog" by 220 Volt paint a picture of a cut-throat society where everyone is in a race for survival, and there is no room for the weak or the vulnerable. The song talks about how you need to stay on your toes, always be alert and aware, and never let your guard down, even when you're on your own turf. The first stanza describes how you need to be cautious and watchful, checking every nook and cranny of your own front lawn to ensure your safety.
The second stanza talks about the need to appear strong and unbreakable, always putting up a tough front, both to keep the competition at bay and to dissuade potential attackers. The third and final stanza talks about the inevitability of being brought down at some point, even if you're at the top of the food chain. When that happens, you need to know the rules and call for reinforcements to survive, or else you'll be consumed by those who would take your place.
Overall, "Dog Eat Dog" is a commentary on the competitive and sometimes cut-throat nature of society, where everyone is fighting for survival, and nobody is completely safe. The song urges listeners to always be alert, stay on their toes, and never let their guard down if they want to survive in this dog-eat-dog world.
