Sean Beavan co-founded 8MM and quietly self-released their debut EP, Opener, through their website while he was producing Kill Hannah's "For Never and Ever" in 2004. Fronted by his wife, Juliette, who has been described as a cross between Billie Holiday, Beth Gibbons and Jessica Rabbit, 8MM quickly became a local underground buzz. Internet word-of-mouth led to tremendous organic support followed by global critical acclaim from artists and tastemakers such as the influential Nic Harcourt of KCRW.
As a producer and mixer, Beavan has worked with a cadre of seminal artists including Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, No Doubt, System of a Down and Slayer (amongst many others).

You know that it's the only way
You know it has to end like this
You know it, babe ...
You know it has to end like this
You know that it's the only way
Bite my lip and with the slip of your tongue
You know, you know
I thought it was all for me
You know, you know
I thought it was all for me
You know I don't want to make this mess
But I might do it anyway
You thought kiss and a little confess
No, it's not that easy, babe
You know, you know
I thought it was all for me
You know, you know
I thought it was all for ...
You made me do this
You made me do this
You know, you know
I thought it was all for me
You know, you know
I thought it was all for me
You know, you know
I thought it was all for
You said it was all for
I thought it was all for
You said it was all for ... me
Heart and soul you're mine
Flesh and bone you're mine
Heart and soul you're mine
Flesh and bone you're mine
(Beavan / Beavan - ASCAP / Easy Girl Music / Wavedriver Music 2005)
The lyrics to 8mm's song "You Know" convey a sense of inevitability and resignation to a difficult ending. The repetition of the phrases "you know it has to end like this" and "you know, you know" suggest a lack of control or choice in the matter. The singer seems to be addressing someone who they once trusted or thought highly of, as evidenced by the lines "I thought it was all for me" and "you said it was all for me." However, the situation has now become a mess and the singer hints at betrayal or deceit with the line "you made me do this." The final lines of the song, "heart and soul you're mine, flesh and bone you're mine" could be interpreted as either a final, possessive declaration or a bitter reminder of what has been lost.
The song's overall mood is one of melancholy and regret, with a touch of anger and defiance. The lyrics could potentially be about a romantic relationship or a friendship that has soured. The singer seems to be struggling with conflicting emotions and desires - on the one hand, they don't want to cause a mess or hurt anyone, but on the other hand, they feel compelled to take action or speak their truth. The "slip of your tongue" mentioned in the song could suggest a confession or a moment of clarity that ultimately brings things to a head.
