Early in their career they were mostly straight ska-punk with an emphasis on catchy horn melodies. The band broke up in early 1999 but reformed with a new pop sound in early 2000 along with a new singer, Kris "Dirty Money" Allison, and a new trombone player, Jimbo Barber.
The "Take Your Pick" EP was released in 2000, followed by "The Truth Hurts" full length in 2001. Both albums sold well in the local areas, and were gone within one year of release.
In 2002, the Wave acquired a new guitar player, Chris Crutcher, along with Timmy Wilson on bass, to release the "Store Bought Punks" EP. In 2003 Steve Ahl left the band and was replaced by Thomas Featherdick on trumpet, along with the return of Jason Flatowicz on trombone. Featherdick left in early 2004 and the band recorded two last songs for a complilation before disbanding in the fall of 2004.
Older and wiser, 8th Wave is now playing shows again, but Jimbo Barber and Jason Flatowicz have left the band. The current line-up for 8th Wave is Steve, Emmy, Kris, Chris, Timmy, and Joe. Joe is the newest member of 8th Wave, playing guitar.
It's all fucking confusing as hell, but who gives a shit. The fact is that 8th Wave has created hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of catchy, melodic, tunes. Just listen to the songs I provided... they're fuckin awesome aren't they? That's what I thought. And if you're ever lucky enough to see one of their 'energetic as fuck' live shows, they'll make your ears melt, and your balls sweat (in a good way). Be advised: Watch your chick around them, or they may cast their spell upon her, and you could lose her forever.

Party Girl
8th Wave Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You look sweet
And it's so nice to finally meet
You smell good
And i'm sold
So now i don't quite so cold
And i'm intoxicated
But you don't seem to hate it
And as for you...
You say you don't really know if you could be my party girl
And let me know what it's like in your fourteen-year-old world
Well i think you'd start to like me if you gave me half a chance
And let me get down in your pants
I've got you
You're locked in
The one thing on my mind is sin
It's not bad
In this place
I lose myself inside your face
Just talking to you is so fine
You make me feel like sunshine
I waited so long for this to be true
And as for you...
You say you don't really know if you could be my party girl
And let me know what it's like in your fourteen-year-old world
Well i think you'd start to like me if you gave me half a chance
And let me get down in your pants
You smell good
And i'm sold
So now i don't quite so cold
And i'm intoxicated
But you don't seem to hate it
And i'm thinking of what we might do
And as for you...
You say you don't really know if you could be my party girl
And let me know what it's like in your fourteen-year-old world
Well i think you'd start to like me if you gave me half a chance
And let me get down in your pants (x2)
The lyrics of "Party Girl" by 8th Wave discuss a young man's infatuation with a girl he has just met at a party. He describes her sweet appearance and pleasant fragrance, and confesses that she has made him feel less cold and intoxicated. He is aware that his intentions with her are not entirely noble, but he tries to persuade her to let him explore her fourteen-year-old world and fulfill his desires. He believes that if she gave him half a chance, she would start to like him and allow him to get intimate with her. Despite this, he seems to genuinely enjoy talking to her and losing himself in her face.
This song is a disturbing representation of the objectification and sexualization of young girls, and it reinforces harmful attitudes towards consent and age differences in relationships. The lyrics suggest that underage girls should be open to advances from older men and that their lack of experience and vulnerability make them desirable. The singer's obsession with the girl's fragrance and appearance is also concerning, as it reduces her to a mere object of his fantasies.
