Stranded
A-Z Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the sky falls and the Earth quakes
We gon' put this back together, we won't break
When the sky falls and the Earth quakes
We gon' put this back together, we won't break

Sak pase, my Port-Au-Princes
My Haitian Gods and all of my princesses
Our condolences as you fightin' against this
We're right by your side while we tryin' to make sense of this
Heavenly Father help us see through these problems
And for those that left accept them into your garden
See here's my theory, the country's already starvin'
So we sacrifice many to shed light on all of them
Y'all please pardon, I speak from my heart
It's the only way I see this tragedy befall on them
So let's get involved with them, hand to hand with them
Arm to arm with them 'til they get strong again
When the sky falls

Not tomorrow
Can't wait until tomorrow

Hey
Haiti a mi amour
Haiti mon amour
Not gonna leave you stranded
Oh no
Oh no, oh no

When the sky falls and the Earth quakes
We gon' put this back together, we won't break
When the sky falls and the Earth quakes
We gon' put this back together, we won't break

Learn from the past, New Orleans was flooded
So we know we just can't rely on the government
We under the rubble again, here we go rumbling when
When we gon' catch a break? My friend lost his mother and then (and then)
Carline lost her uncles and them
Buried with no caskets, they just put covers on them
And the tears fall but we fight back
Story ain't done, it can't end like that
Nah not like this, tomorrow's survivors gonna carry on your name
You live on inside us, your memory's alive with us
You inspired us, to rebuild this country, you just guide us

Not tomorrow
Can't wait until tomorrow

Hey
Haiti a mi amour
Haiti mon amour
Not gonna leave you stranded
Hey, yeah yeah yeah
Not gonna leave you stranded
Oh no, oh no

It's not the angels that are on their way
It's not the bells of Sante Trinity
The people waiting, position vacant
For hands to help, not just to pray

Hey
Haiti a mi amour
Haiti mon amour
Not gonna leave you stranded
Hey, yeah yeah yeah
Not gonna leave you stranded
(Not gonna leave, no) Oh no
(Not gonna leave, no) Oh no
(Oh no, not gonna leave)

Haïti va s'élever
Tu vas te relever (not gonna leave)
Nous nous éléverons (oh no)
Ensemble, ensemble, ensemble

Not gonna leave you stranded (we gon' put this back together we won't break)
(we gon' put this back together we won't break)
Not gonna leave you stranded (we gon' put this back together we won't break)
(we gon' put this back together we won't break)
Not gonna leave you stranded (we gon' put this back together we won't break)
We gon' put this back together we won't break

We gon' put this back together we won't break

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of A-Z's song "Stranded" convey a message of resilience, unity, and support in the face of adversity. The repetitive chorus, "When the sky falls and the Earth quakes, we gon' put this back together, we won't break," emphasizes the determination to rebuild and overcome challenges. The song is dedicated to the people of Haiti, particularly after the devastating earthquake that struck in 2010. The opening lines, "Sak pase, my Port-Au-Princes, my Haitian Gods and all of my princesses," directly address the Haitian people, expressing condolences and solidarity.

The lyrics also touch upon the need for collective action and assistance. A-Z mentions the sacrifices made to shed light on the country's struggles, highlighting the importance of getting involved, working hand in hand, and supporting each other. The references to New Orleans being flooded and the failure of relying solely on the government serve as reminders to learn from past experiences and take responsibility for rebuilding communities.

The song acknowledges the pain and loss experienced by the Haitian people, such as friends losing their loved ones and facing ongoing challenges. However, it also emphasizes the power of their memory and the inspiration they provide to rebuild the country. The phrase "tomorrow's survivors gonna carry on your name" emphasizes the lasting impact of those who have been lost and the determination to honor their memory by rebuilding and moving forward.

As a drummer, Zonder has always been a big influence since the release of ''Parallels'' LP. To hear him with Alder, it brings me back to the good old days of FATES WARNING. Great song!

Ron B.

His influence for me started with the album "Perfect Symmetry"- (before "Parallels").

M Z

I learned so much from playing the two y’all mentioned above and my personal favorite album by Fates, Inside Out! This A-Z album really seems to be a tribute to those times. So damn good!

moumouzel

@Ron B. perfect symmetry was a game changer indeed

mike Ski

Parallels. OMG GREAT ALBUM.

Sebastian

@Ron B. PRECISELY...Why Skip Perfect Symmetry?

Ray and Mark are legendary, and Ray is my favorite vocalist of all time, but few writer-composers are even close to the brilliance of Jim Matheos. Probably one of the most underrated songwriters and guitarists in the business.

Mr. Zonder is from another planet! Ray is great as always, singing w. soul, and this bass player is amazing, has a great music pace, perfect timing. By the way, the whole band has it.

GiovanniCapitani

A musicalidade e criatividade do Zonder é uma coisa de outro mundo. Incrível

gowanis
