Initially under Ola Andersson on guitars, Tomas Erlandsson on drums, Jens Appelgren on vocals and Jerry Sahlin on both keyboards and drums, Fairyland was started by members of a music school in Malmö. Amongst various line-up changes, Fairlyland changed its name into A.C.T in 1995. In 1996 A.C.T first came into the public eye when it made its way to the final of a Swedish music competition, although it did not win.
In 1997 a new demo was recorded and the band toured extensively in Sweden, eventually recording its debut album, ‘Today’s Report’, released in 1999. Following the release of this album, A.C.T embarked on a Scandinavian tour with the progressive rock band Saga. In 2001, the second album ‘Imaginary Friends’ was recorded, after which the band went on a European tour supporting Fish. In 2003, A.C.T’s third album ‘Last Epic’ was released, and the band went on a European tour with former Genesis singer Ray Wilson.
In 2006, A.C.T signed with the label InsideOut and returned with the album ‘Silence’. InsideOut has subsequently re-released the first three albums as special editions, with bonus tracks and enhanced booklets.
Why Bother
A.C.T Lyrics

What is there left to give?
Nobody ever takes you seriously.
Lift up your arms and we'll jump right out
Through empty space.
You took your own life,
But there's no one here left to blame.
At the final stage, there's no one you can get past through,
Why bother? Why even care?
You're gone now, there's nothing left to say.
Who cared for you? Who really did?
You're gone now, there's nothing left to say.
Smell the air as you run through the clouds with me.
Can you believe it's true?
Nobody ever really cares for you.
Laugh as we fly, punch a hole right
Through the clear-blue sky.
You'll hold on to life so tight,
You'll never see the day turn into night.
And at the final stage, there's nothing left to hold on to,
You cannot see, the sadness in us all.
Why bother? Why even care?
You're gone now, there's nothing left to say.
Who cared for you? Who really did?
You're gone now, there's nothing left to say.
(Motto vivo con fuoco a piacere)
Why bother? Why even care?
You're gone now, there's nothing left to say.
Who cared for you? Who really did?
You're gone now, there's nothing left to say.
The song "Why Bother" by A.C.T starts with a hopeful sentiment, encouraging the listener to take the singer's hand and walk through eternity. However, this hopefulness soon turns to frustration as the singer realizes that nobody takes them seriously, and there is nothing left to give. The bridge of the song acknowledges the tragic loss of a life, but points out that there is no one left to blame for the act of suicide. The chorus repeatedly asks the question "Why bother? Why even care?" suggesting that there is no point in trying if nobody cares about you. The second verse paints a picture of escaping reality by flying through the clouds, but even in this fantasy, the sad truth remains that nobody cares about you. The final chorus repeats the same bleak outlook that there is nothing left to say or to care about once someone is gone.
The meaning of "Why Bother" can be interpreted in a few ways. It could be a commentary on the feeling of being alone and neglected, which can lead someone to question their own existence. It could also be seen as a critique of a society that doesn't always value and care for its members. On a more personal level, it could be seen as a plea to those who are struggling to reach out to those around them and ask for help.
