Newman began his musical career in the 1990s as a member of the Vancouver grunge/pop group Superconductor. After a brief stay, he joined the Vancouver-based pop group Zumpano. The band released two albums with Newman in the mid-1990s, Look What the Rookie Did and Goin' Through Changes, both of which received favorable reviews. Though Zumpano never officially announced their breakup, they have not recorded any new material since the 90s.
Newman is a founding member of the successful Vancouver-based pop supergroup The New Pornographers. The band has released five full length albums since 2000, all of which received favorable reviews. In 2007, Blender ranked the group's debut album, Mass Romantic, the 24th best indie album of all time. Newman is the band's main songwriter and vocalist, and is generally regarded as the band's leader.
His debut solo album, The Slow Wonder, was released in Summer 2004, and his sophomore album, Get Guilty, was released in early 2009. He released his third album, Shut Down the Streets, in 2012.
All of My Days and All of My Days Off
A.C. Newman Lyrics

And the idea is a powerful one
The sun showers outside and I've found something in the swing here
An idea whose time had come
And now I give you my days, all my days (all my days)
And now I give you my days, all my days (all my days)
All my days, all my days
It broke open the door, flipping chairs, tipping over tables
Reminded why I love this one
Go trip down the lane, take my name, the flashbulbs strobe eureka
Like an idea whose time had come
And now I give you my days, all my days
All my days, all my days
All my days, all of days
All my days, all of days
All my days, all of days
All my days, all of days
All my days, all of days
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
The sun showers outside and I've found something in the swing here
An idea whose time had come
Thunderbolts will strike where they may, like a drunken master
Like an idea whose time had come
And now I give you my days, all my days
And all of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All of my days off (all my days)
All my days
All my days
All my days
All my days
All my days
All my days
All my days
All my days
All my days
The lyrics to A.C. Newman's song "All of My Days and All of My Days Off" seem to be about giving oneself over completely to another person, dedicating all of one's time and energy to them. The sequins in the wake may refer to the traces of glamour and excitement that a person leaves behind them as they go through life, and the fact that they find their way to the singer suggests that they are following the path that he has laid out for himself. Meanwhile, the sun showers outside and the singer has found something in the swing outside which represents an idea whose time has come. The progression of the lyrics seems to suggest that the person the singer is dedicating himself to is the one who has brought about this change within him.
