Father And Son
A.M.P. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

So I was walkin down the street the other day and...
Tell us how it was
Okay, okay
I was sittin' on a park bench the other day
Not a care in the world
I let the wind pass over my hair
Money's tight
So is my life
I don't even
Have a wife
Mortgage is due
So I got up and said I'm through
Is that you? (Is that you Jesus?)
In the back room?
Okay
Is that you?
In the
Back room?
Yes
Okay
I went to Denny's
The only place
I truly know
I got served by my favourite waiter
His name's Pater
With a 'P'
That's right, I'm talkin' bout me
I went to the back room
Pancakes, pancakes
Pancakes, pancakes
Pancakes, pancakes
Pancakes, pancakes
Pancakes, pancakes
Pancakes, pancakes
Pancakes, pancakes
Cockroaches scuttle along the floor
Water drips from a lonely corner
A lighter is resting in the middle of the room
The door is wide open, yet he feels trapped
Where is he? (Where is God?)
But in his own mind
A shadow (I wanna know)
No light source comes into the room
Aaah
He screams (is it an angel?)
God has abandoned him
Save me
Who does he turn to? (Save him)
Save me (Save him, save god)
He cries out (Haaa)
With the open door (Creek)
Shadows cast into the room
He doesn't bother get up
He knows he has
Guests
Yet he still feels alone
Who is this stranger
The room across the hall
A game of cards is being played
(A game of cards is being played, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle)
I love poker
I'm playing cards, I'm playing cards
What are you having for dinner, cards?
They whisper (I'm having asparagus, okay)
They feel they have a-a guest in the room (Go fish)
But they're fully alone (Black jack 21)
What about the man across the hall? (Across the hall)
He too, is alone (Can I have your Uno?)
But he has guests (Do you guys wanna play Magic?)
I make the chips
I forgot my 20 sided dice (Magic the Gathering)

D 'n' D?
I will always wanna know what butter cream frosting tastes like

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of A.M.P.'s song "Father And Son" depict a scene where the singer is reflecting on his current struggles in life while experiencing a sense of isolation and longing for connection. The first paragraph begins with the singer walking down the street, which sets the tone for a contemplative and introspective narrative. The mention of sitting on a park bench and feeling the wind passing through their hair suggests a moment of solace and reflection.

The lyrics then touch upon the financial difficulties the singer is facing, with tight money and the absence of a wife in their life. The mention of the mortgage being due signifies the burden of responsibility and the pressures of life. The line "I got up and said I'm through" implies the singer's frustration and perhaps a desire for change or escape from their current circumstances. The reference to Jesus in the back room is metaphorical, suggesting a plea for guidance or salvation.

In the second paragraph, the singer seeks comfort and familiarity in a place they know well, Denny's. The mention of their favorite waiter, Pater, adds a personal touch, illustrating a small connection the singer has in this seemingly lonely world. The repetition of "Pancakes, pancakes" could symbolize a longing for simplicity or a desire for something familiar and comforting amidst the chaos of life.

The third paragraph takes a darker turn, describing a dilapidated room infested with cockroaches and dripping water. The presence of a lighter and an open door represents potential escape or salvation, but the singer feels trapped despite the opportunity. The mention of God's abandonment and the cry for salvation represents a deep sense of despair and longing for divine intervention. The shadow in the room and the unanswered question of where God is further emphasize the singer's feelings of loneliness and abandonment.

In the fourth paragraph, the lyrics shift focus to a man in a room across the hall, engaging in a game of cards. The mention of conversations and whispers among the card players highlights their attempts at companionship and distraction. However, even though they have each other's company, they still feel a sense of loneliness. The mention of different games like poker, Uno, and Magic the Gathering adds a touch of realism and relatability.

The lyrics conclude with an unexpected longing for the taste of buttercream frosting, symbolizing a desire for simple pleasures and a longing for a sweeter, more fulfilling life. Overall, "Father And Son" portrays a complex emotional landscape, highlighting the singer's struggles, longing for connection, and search for meaning amidst the challenges of life.

That gauge install was awesome! I have to say, not too many people would be willing to take a bunch of power tools to the cluster like that haha. But considering your background in this field of custom work, I'm sure it was just another day at the office haha. Cheers from Canada!

@EffDinero8

The extra mile you go to in your install's is exactly why I subscribe! Adding the digital temp & voltage gauges to the instrument cluster is so boss! Your attention to detail is what separates you from all the other installers I've ever come across. Keep the vids coming!

@meade916

thanks a lot bro i really appreciate that. :)

@brettlyjonesin

Soo sick never would have thought to integrate in the dash bezel... that's a super common bezel too won't be surprised if we start seeing more people doing the same thing with your products on there projects. Maybe others have done it but this is the first I've seen. Great job man

@1skeeta4u

Pure badass... The mods are crazy... You got your son riding clean. Great set of videos... Glad you didn't just put up one video and instead put up the whole breakdown/clean up process!!

@kalashnkov4774

Just wanted to say that you are an inspiration to me Steve! Me and my friends are pretty amateur when it comes to the custom builds that we do! We always watch your videos and envy that you do this for a job! Keep on posting videos man! By the way you shoud do some videos on songs that you play through your system! Thanks!

@hondafanatic17

You and your son did a really nice clean and simple job on his Yukon. I bet you had a good time working together on it. I bet all his friends are pretty jealous haha. I liked the gauges that you incorporated into the factory dash cluster, nice touch.

@vk4frik1
