Crossfire
A. G. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ya know we need a little crisis,
To prove our sacrifices.
Get the taboos lifted,
Get the gears shifted.

Don't get caught in the crossfire,
Don't sabotage yourself trying to get higher.
This whole situation is getting out of hand.
Don't get caught in the crossfire,
Don't sabotage yourself trying to get higher.
Every outpost has roots into the land.

We think that we're barbarians,
But we feel more like titarians,
Scared of our emotion,
Causing a commotion.

This could be explosive,
Hunting without a motive.

I ain't no super-structure,
I'm flesh and bone, I fracture.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of A. G.'s song "Crossfire" delve into the concept of crisis and sacrifice, suggesting that sometimes it takes a crisis to truly comprehend and appreciate the sacrifices we make. The line "Ya know we need a little crisis, to prove our sacrifices" indicates that crisis can serve as a catalyst for growth and transformation. It suggests that when faced with challenges, we are able to prove our dedication and commitment to what we believe in.

The lyrics also touch upon the idea of breaking free from societal taboos and norms, indicated by the line "Get the taboos lifted." This suggests a desire for liberation and a shift in perspective. The line "Get the gears shifted" implies a readiness for change and transformation, emphasizing the importance of not getting stuck in the same patterns and routines.

The repeated chorus "Don't get caught in the crossfire, don't sabotage yourself trying to get higher" warns against losing oneself in the chaos of competition and trying to climb higher at any cost. It cautions against self-destructive behavior and the negative consequences that may arise from it. The lyrics highlight the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that the whole situation is getting out of hand.

The following lines suggest a struggle with emotions, portraying a sense of vulnerability and fear. The reference to feeling like "barbarians" while also feeling like "titarians" illustrates the conflicting nature of human emotions. The line "Scared of our emotion, causing a commotion" indicates that the intensity of emotions can lead to turbulence and disruption.

The lyrics conclude with a sense of self-awareness and fragility, acknowledging that the individual is not an invincible force but rather a vulnerable being. The line "I'm flesh and bone, I fracture" emphasizes the reality of our physical and emotional limitations, underscoring the need for self-care and caution.

Overall, "Crossfire" by A. G. explores the themes of crisis, sacrifice, liberation, self-sabotage, and vulnerability, encouraging listeners to navigate the complexities of life with mindfulness and resilience.

Here are some thoughts I have about this. Thought I would write them down here instead of the description, maybe more people will notice it this way.

Last year I've started playing a lot more AG on crossfire. I've played countless games (over 500) against Vryndar on this map, and all this practice really boosted my skill to heights I could've never imagined. At one point I've noticed that I'm able to get way more kills in a single match than I've been able to do before. I'm not sure what my PB was before this, but here's a small timeline to show you what I mean:

February 24, 2016 - 169 kills
June 20, 2016 - 216 kills
June 30, 2016 - 240 kills
August 7, 2016 - 256 kills
August 31, 2016 - 278 kills

Within a couple of months I have been able to improve my score by a 100. It was around the 250 frag mark that I've realised I could attempt beating the world record, which was 315 kills by biggy, so I started grinding these games, trying to get a perfect one. Eventually I got to 278 (the game you're watching here). I think a few weeks later or so I've gotten a 280 but it was more or less the same as this, except I choked more times there.

One of the interesting things that I've noticed throughout this time is that my playstyle has changed in a way that I can get the most kills in the game. As you can see, I don't even take detours to fill up my armor, since it takes valuable time that could be otherwise spent spawnkilling. As a result, I die a lot more times than I should. Usually 10-20 times per match like this, and even though it also costs time, I think it's a good trade-off, since constantly going for extra armor/refills will end up taking more time than getting a fresh spawn and going for gauss ASAP.

There are a couple of things I could improve in this match. First of all, my RPG House defense here is weak. I just wait for the opponent to exit or come across something that I could wallgauss. This is slow, and I have already learned a few new wallgauss shots to improve this.

The second thing is using more egon. I'm not entirely sure about this one, but if you watch the world record, biggy uses egon for about 50% of his kills, while I only have more or less 20 kills with it. Egon is much safer to use than gauss in some situations, since you do constant damage with it instead of a single shot that you can easily miss. The negative thing of this is, of course, when the opponent spawns behind a wall. You can never know when that's going to happen, and when it does, you'll have to recharge gauss and hope your shot will be strong enough to kill the opponent who might've moved far enough to not die. This is why I use gauss pretty much everywhere. No matter where my opponent will spawn, I will be able to react quickly and get a kill. It's much harder, but it seems to work.

To beat the world record, I need to make 16 kills per minute. In this game I do ~14 KPM, so it's not that far away, this match is only 37 kills behind the WR.

Either way, I don't think I will attempt this in the same way anymore. I realised that playing vs a human player is just too arbitrary and there are a lot of things that in the end depends on pure luck. For example, the player can respawn much faster at 250fps, so if I played vs a 250fps player, I could get way more kills because it takes less time to kill them = more overall respawns/frags.

Also depending on the player you're playing against, they might take a direct route to you (which is helpful in this case) or just hide somewhere instead, not giving you the kill right away.

This is why these things should be played vs bots instead of human players. The only reason I've played vs a human is that the only existing record of this does so as well, but I now realize how dumb it is. Maybe it takes more skill to read a human player (since the bot will do the same things over and over), so it's more impressive that way, I've no idea.. However It's a one-sided enjoyment in this map, so unless you find someone really dedicated to keep playing these games with you, it's not going to be fun for them. And for the record, I did NOT tell the guy in here to give me easy kills. This is just another regular friendly 1v1 where both players try to get as many kills as possible against each other.

TL;DR: This is dumb, so don't do this. Play games for fun, not for the frag count. And if you want to beat the record, do so against a bot instead.
