They then broke into the mainstream with their sixth, Sing the Sorrow (2003), which peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for 51 weeks. The album was supported by popular singles "Girl's Not Grey" and "Silver and Cold", both of which peaked at number seven on America's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2003. "The Leaving Song Pt. II" was also released as a single, reaching number 16 on the chart. Sing the Sorrow was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 2006 and is AFI's best-selling release, having sold over 1.26 million copies as of September 2009.

Key Lime Pie
AFI Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Key lime pie, indulge and I am in your debt
Key lime pie, inspire me with foolish love
Key lime pie, your green filling makes me inept
Flaky crust is what I lust
Your fresh lime scent is a must
Take me with coffee, never with tea
People gawk, "Is that pie green?"
Ask for a bite, "Fuck you, I'm mean"
Key lime pie, cheapest hooker I've ever had
Key lime pie, last slice gleaming, if you're out I'm mad
Key lime pie, poke fun and laugh and jest
Key lime pie, don't bother me, digest key lime pie
The song "Key Lime Pie" by AFI (A Fire Inside) is a tongue-in-cheek ode to the dessert, examining the emotions and sensations that this pie can evoke. At first glance, the lyrics may seem trivial, but upon closer examination, they reveal an underlying theme of infatuation and indulgence. The singer is smitten with this particular type of pie, referring to it as his inspiration for "foolish love" and describing how its green filling makes him feel powerless and inept. The singer goes on to highlight the pie's sensory appeal, commenting on its flaky crust and fresh lime scent. He also enjoys the exclusivity of enjoying the pie, unwilling to share it despite people's inquiries.
The singer's descriptions of the pie become more provocative as the song progresses. He likens the pie to a cheap hooker, implying that indulging in it comes with a sense of shame or guilt. He becomes possessive over the pie, lamenting the loss of the last slice and warning others not to bother him while he digests it.
Overall, the song "Key Lime Pie" can be interpreted as a playful commentary on our relationship with food and how it can inspire deep emotions in us. It highlights how something as simple as a dessert can evoke a sense of infatuation, gluttony and anxiety.

Well.. damn I've listened to them for years and wasn't aware of that. This better not interfere with my wish to enjoy some key lime pie and coffee with the band before I die.

Key Lime Pie was the name of the recording studio, that JUST the four of them put together. They remarked they were signed by Key Lime Pie or KLP Records until they got signed to a real company. They decided to make a parody song, ABOUT Key Lime Pie, as a metaphor for their studio, after they were signed on
