Hope for the Hopeless
A Fine Frenzy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stitch in your knitted brow
And you don't know how
You're gonna get it out
Crushed under heavy chest
Trying to catch your breath
But it always beats you by a step, all right now

Making the best of it
Playing the hand you get
Well, you're not alone in this

There's hope for the hopeless
There's hope for the hopeless
There's hope

Cold in the summer breeze
Yeah, you're shivering
On your bended knee
Still, when you're heart is sore
And the heavens pour
Like a willow bending with the storm, you'll make it

Running against the wind
Playing the cards you get
Something is bound to give

There's hope for the hopeless
There's hope for the hopeless
There's hope
There's hope
There's hope

There's hope

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of A Fine Frenzy's "Hope for the Hopeless" is a song about persevering through difficult times and finding strength in moments of hopelessness. The opening line, "Stitch in your knitted brow, and you don't know how you're gonna get it out," suggests a state of anxiety and frustration, a feeling of being stuck in a difficult situation. The next line, "Crushed under heavy chest, trying to catch your breath, but it always beats you by a step," adds to this sense of despair and defeat, yet it is followed by the reassuring line, "Well, you're not alone in this."

The chorus repeats, "There's hope for the hopeless, there's hope," reminding the listener that even in the darkest times, there is the possibility of finding a way out or a glimmer of hope. The following lines describe enduring the hardships, "Running against the wind, playing the cards you get, something is bound to give," suggesting that even when everything feels against you, something positive will happen if the effort is made. The song ends on a note of encouragement, "There's hope", emphasizing the theme.

Picked this album randomly from a store when I was 13 and it changed my life. Her music is beautiful!

About the same with me, but about 40 years older than you were. You have to find unseen gems for your whole life.

As you like such rather sparse, coarse music, have a look at "Never" and "Your Fires" of "All the Luck in the world", or for "spanishy" guitar, at Estas Tonne's "The Song of the Golden Dragon", or totally weird, look for "Asha Hang". I met her some nigh in the Munich pedestrian area, and found it fascinating.

For me variation is the key. Loud is only loud when there is a silent to compare it to. You have to give a note time to unfold. Pink Floyd are one of the masters of that.

Listening during the pandemic of 2020 and the fall of our beautiful country. I have hope! This year has been painful, scary and dark. I dream of seeing the light again. Hope for the hopeless.

I love this song :D It actually has meaning and may actually prove to some people that not all songs have a have a catchy beat to be good (excellent in this case). Why can't more people see it's amazingness? Maybe there's hope for the hopelessness of popular music in today's world.
