(1) Ab… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least three (3) artists under the name Aberdeen.
(1) Aberdeen were an American rock band. Their musical style is similar to twee pop. The band formed in 1993 and by 1994 was signed to the seminal British label Sarah Records; they were one of only three American bands signed to Sarah (the other two being East River Pipe and The Springfields). They've also released recordings through Sunday Records and the Tremolo Arm Users Club. After Sarah folded in 1995, so did the band. They reformed in 2001, signed to Tremolo, and released a full-length album, two singles, and a maxi-CD (see discography below).
Possibly the band's biggest exposure came when one of their songs, "Sink or Float," was featured on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The song was also included on the UK edition of the series's second soundtrack album, Radio Sunnydale.
Aberdeen broke up again in 2005 as their members drifted to other projects. Lead singer Beth Arzy-Dean has also been a member of Trembling Blue Stars since 2000.
(2) Aberdeen are a grunge/alternative rock band from Dallas, Texas, comprised of Jake Linder and Matt Boiling.
(3) Aberdeen are a jazz/indie rock brass band based in Brooklyn, New York.
Homesick
Aberdeen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
you are here with me it seems
And laugh at passers by
The night-time sparkles in your eyes
happiness was my disguise
I knew you’d soon be gone
I use to see you
I can not make it alone
You use to see me
so how can it be
you’ve gone so far away?
It’s so much colder now you’re gone
I should have said so all along
but too afraid to say
But when I listen to your voice
I think you made the wisest choice
It’s so much better this way
I use to see you
and now I need to
I can not make it alone
You use to see me
so how can it be
you’ve gone so far away?
The song "Homesick" by Aberdeen is a melancholic one about missing someone who was once close but had to leave. The lyrics paint a picture of the singer looking out of a window and imagining the person in question with them, laughing at passers-by. The happiness that the singer feels is temporary though because they know that this person will soon be gone. The first verse ends with the line "happiness was my disguise, I knew you'd soon be gone," which shows that the singer was aware that their happiness was short-lived.
The second verse talks about how much colder it is now that this person is gone, and how the singer wishes they had said something before they left. However, as they listen to this person's voice, they realize that leaving was the wisest choice. The song ends with the repeated chorus, expressing how much the singer needs this person and questioning how they could have gone so far away.
Overall, the song is a sad one that touches on themes of loss, longing, and acceptance. It speaks to the universal experience of missing someone who was once close to you and the difficulty of moving on from their departure.
