I should have never believed
You've been gone so long
Why did I let you leave?
Victoria, come back to me
I should have never believed
You've been gone so long
Was it simply my self-doubt
That made me give you away?
I thought I couldn't take care of you
Now I'll never see the day
Victoria, come back to me
I should have never believed
You've been gone so long
Why did I let you leave?
Victoria, come back to me
I should have never believed
You've been gone so long
Why did I let you leave?
Our family fell upon hard times
So many mouths to feed
Thought you could have a better life
How could I have seen their greed?
Victoria, come back to me
I should have never believed
You've been gone so long
Why did I let you leave?
Victoria, come back to me
I should have never believed
You've been gone so long
You've been gone so long
You've been gone so long
Why did I let you leave?
The song "Victoria" by Abney Park is about a man who is feeling remorseful and regretful for allowing his partner, Victoria, to leave him. The first verse begins with the plea for Victoria to return to him, and the singer then questions why he let her leave and why it has taken so long for her to come back. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the singer's desperation and sorrow over the situation.
The second verse explores the reasons why Victoria left in the first place. It seems that the singer doubted himself and his ability to provide for their family, which led to him giving Victoria away. However, the singer now acknowledges that this was a mistake and wonders how he could have been so foolish.
The final verse reveals that the family fell on hard times, and the singer believed that giving Victoria away would provide her with a better life. However, the true motivation behind the decision may have been their family's greed. Overall, the song portrays the complex emotions of love, loss, regret, and the impact of external factors on relationships.
