Gravity
Above & Beyond Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say time heals all your wounds
You can wait but to no avail
Thorn in your side, mayday at sea
Anchors cast, they're dragging me down
Reduce my sight with puzzled thoughts
We all learn, from, the blinding dark
Can you believe that I try
Can you believe me one more time
I can't reach the shore
The current is keeping me out at sea
I can't open the door
Cause they have locked away the key
They say things have their reasons
The more thing change the more they stay the same
Reduce my sight with blinding dark
My puzzled thought
The constant fight
Reduce my sight with blinding dark
My puzzled thought
The constant fight
It's ironic misery loves company
Because I live to be alone
Anchors hold down even the strongest of us
(Don't drown with me)
Even the bravest have anchors set at sea
(Don't drown with me)
Anchors hold down even the strongest of us
(Don't drown with me)

Even the brave have fallen victim
Don't fall with me

Overall Meaning

In Above & Beyond's song Gravity, the lyrics revolve around themes of struggle, desperation, and hopelessness. The opening line "they say time heals all your wounds" sets the tone for the rest of the song, as it touches on the idea that sometimes, no matter how much time passes, the pain and wounds inflicted upon us never truly heal. The lines "thorn in your side, mayday at sea, anchors cast they're dragging me down" further emphasize this theme of struggle, as the metaphorical "anchors" drag the singer down, leaving them feeling helpless and trapped.

The chorus, with the repetition of "reduce my sight with blinding dark, my puzzled thought, the constant fight," speaks to the idea of feeling completely lost and in darkness, with no clear path forward. The lines "it's ironic misery loves company, because I live to be alone" touch on the idea that sometimes when we are in our darkest moments, we push others away or isolate ourselves because no one can truly understand our pain.

I'm a little late to this party, but everyone denouncing Parker & Hanson for this is dead wrong.

It is, in no way, a recreation of 'Fly' by Ludovico Eunadi.

Both songs feature completely different chord progressions, structures, and broken chord compositions. Parker & Hanson themselves even said on their FB it was a happy coincidence they sounded remotely similar.

Also, 'Fly' diverges onto a totally different musical idea following this similarity.

Please, do your research and open your ears. Similarity is not equal to plagiarism. Similarity will always be an event in the world of music.

Wow.

@Leegheid

As someone who is a fan of Ludovico Einaudi I noticed right away how similar the piano part sounds like "fly"... It's inspired, but definitely not the same... It's like one of the djs heard it only once, and made this song a few years later.
This song is beautiful... Every sound in this track is perfectly harmonized with each other, such a delight to listen to!
