I have a story about this song. During that Egil fight at the meyneth shrine, just before Egil reached half health, I used a chain attack. My party was Shulk, dunban, and riki, and with the art setup I had, there were 2 red arts on each character, with dunban having 3. During that chain attack, when his health at stopped going down, I realized, oh I think the fight should have ended, ok let’s finish this chain attack. The funny thing is that chain attack was the longest one I got in the entire game. So long, that once I ran out of red arts and talent arts, I had to use breaks and topples. So at the end of the chain attack, I had him toppled, and just happened to have my party gauge filled again, so I used another chain attack just to meme. This one wasn’t as many rounds, but still, I finished his health bar, while only partway through the longest chain attack I got in the game, then was able to use another, all while laughing my head off at how sad this was, and I will never be able to associate this music with anything else

Sometimes a song can make a movie scene or video game cutscene so memorable and amazing that you never forget it because they compliment each over so perfectly. Hearing this song for the first time during the Galahad Fortress collapse cutscene blew my mind (the moment Shulk Leapt off the edge specifically) that it is my favourite scene in Xenoblade 1. In the same moment I realized that I was playing a game that has now cultivated my interest and had me invested in a game like no other game I’ve played before had ever done to that point and that fact I was only at the half way point of the game at best, made me realize it would probably become my favourite game of all time by the end of it. To this day, Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade 2 are still my top 2 favourite games of all time. I’m so excited to see what’s gonna happen in Xenoblade 3.

Man, I really like Egil. He's not some generic "heehoo imma blow up da world" villain. Despite his evil intentions, he still allows the protagonists to speak before they fight. He explains what he's doing, why he's doing it. And he's even doing for decent reasons. He is a villain that shows respect to his enemies, and I love that.

Edit: I just realized, he reminds me of maul in the clone wars. He's a badass with great skill, what he's doing isn't even entirely wrong. He respects opponents enough that he doesn't fly into battle immediately, and they've both been blinded by rage, yet at the moment of their defeat, realize that perhaps they were wrong, and there might be a better way to get what they want, one that involves less suffering

Everyone always talks about how this song reminds them of Egil or Bana. But for me, the most memorable part where this song plays is at mechonis core. I'll put the spoilery things under the read more.

Its just because of how hopeless things seem when it plays. Zanza has returned and Meyneth has stepped forward to fight him. But even though you had seen how powerful she is during the game, she is no match for Zanza. It really plays on your hopelessness. Things have gone pretty wrong right now and everything was looking like it was going to finally be agreed upon. But nope. Enjoy a plummet of bad thing after bad thing happening

@Cross the piece was recorded by a live orchestra. You have to know what you're listening for, but you can tell by listening to the violins.
Synthesized sounds lack the "tone" and depth that an instrument still actually produce. In the original, the violins sound pale. Also, the vibrato in synthesized tracks is very monotone and predictable.
The difference is subtle in this piece. If you don't have a trained ear, you should be able to tell the difference while listening to the original and remastered version of central factory.

If you think Gael'gal was a bad villain, try going into the first fight being over-leveled from completing most of the side-quests. I was so busy trying to destroy his defense-unit that Melia and Kino defeated him while I completely ignored him. Then during the 2nd fight, I had the Ponspectors land the finishing blow. The Nopons essentially drove a main-villain to commit suicide while I couldn't help but smile watching the Ponspectors huddle together.

@Laggalot101 I know I'm 5 months late, but Unfinished Business is actually a cutscene track. At least, I think it is. If you skip the cutscene it starts in, Obstacle in Our Path plays instead of it, so I'm pretty sure it's just a cutscene track that plays during gameplay for a little bit like Engage the Enemy the first time it plays.

@Logos Good question, and one I don't have the answer to, I'm afraid. I agree, it's a bit weird.

A very loose guess for why they didn't remaster it, might be that this version is never used as a battle or area theme when music remasters are done pretty much exclusively for either of those. I think Unfinished Business is the only theme in the game used for either of these two purposes (battle, in this case, of course), that did not get remastered. Possibly related (though this could also well be pure coincidence), there is also a particular cutscene that oddly uses the original version of One Who Stands In Our Way, even if you choose to use the rearranged soundtrack. That cutscene never transitions into a battle, so it would fit somewhat into the trend if that's the reason.

The version that plays in Galahad Fortress is entirely instrumental, even in the original game. It lacks the vocals you hear here and also skips the first 20 seconds or so. And it doesn't loop. I assume that's why the remastered version of Tragic Decision doesn't play there. Because the instrumental version itself did not get remastered.

I laughed so hard when he first came on screen just because of how evil he looked just from his design. I mean, fucking purple eyeballs, are you kidding me? Ntm his name is Gael gar, that's about as evil as naming someone malakith. And on top of all that, he didnt even do anything in the plot. Just, fuck future connected as a whole man, it has like no positive qualities.

Well, I can be the one to say it. It's simply to much stuff in this song and drums are given too much role in such a symphonic song. It didn't require so many different and unnecessary instruments to be great. It was a song made of determination and power but now it just sounds like a chaos of sorts (which is a complete opposite)

When I was fighting egil, i kept him in a topple lock because I finally figured out how to do it, and the cutscene wouldn't activate nor his health bar go down, so I was like "am I supposed to get hit?".

Listened to the original and this back to back a lot, and I can safely conclude this is superior. Honestly every change they made was perfect, although the vocals are a little better in the original that's the only minor nitpick. The violin, the heavier riffs, just wow. Not every track's remaster was better, but this is one of the cases where it really got a big overhaul.

The only one I find inferior is An Obstacle in Our Path. I prefer the original pitch because it sounds more dread-inducing to me. That's the only issue though. If you lower the pitch it sounds amazing.
