Jy Maak My
Adam Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As jy my kon volg?
Op die vleuels van die wind
Na wêrelde oorkant die maan
Sou jy my spoor in die Melkweg vind?
My tent tussen sterre sien staan?

Want ek is nog jonk
En die wêreld is oud
Sy skadu val ver deur die ruim
Neem nou my hand
Want die nag word koud
En waarom sal ons nog versuim?

As jy my kon lief hê
Tot alles vergaan
En nooit, ooit die skeiding sou vrees
Sou ons die lewe
Kon leer verstaan?
'n Oomblik gelukkig kon wees

Want ons is nog jonk
En die wêreld is oud
En voor ons het almal gefaal
Neem nou my hand

Want die nag word koud
Dis nou dalk die heel laaste maal

Overall Meaning

In these lyrics, the singer is expressing a longing for a deep and meaningful connection with someone. The first paragraph uses metaphors to describe the desire to be followed and found by this person, even across different worlds and galaxies. The imagery of the tent among the stars emphasizes the idea of being together in a vast and incomprehensible universe.

The second paragraph reflects on the singer's youth and the world's age, suggesting a sense of vulnerability and uncertainty. The shadow that reaches far through space symbolizes the challenges and obstacles that come with growing up and navigating life. The plea for the listener to take their hand is a call for support and companionship in facing the coldness and hardships of the night, which can be interpreted as representing difficult times or struggles.

The third paragraph delves into the idea of unconditional love and the absence of fear of separation. The singer suggests that if they could be loved until the end and never fear the possibility of being apart, they could truly understand and grasp the meaning of life. There is a longing for a moment of pure happiness and the prospect of experiencing it together.

In the final paragraph, the repetition of the statement that the world is old emphasizes a feeling of weariness and disillusionment. The acknowledgement that everyone has failed before them adds to the sense of skepticism and uncertainty. Once again, the plea to take their hand highlights the need for comfort and warmth in the face of the encroaching coldness. The mention that this may be the last time hints at a sense of urgency and the willingness to seize the opportunity for connection before it slips away.

Afrikaans is 1 of the most beautiful languages.
Who agrees?

@dutchskyrimgamer.youtube2748

I am a Dutchman and I say, of all West Germanic languages is Afrikaans by far the most beautiful. This is a grief that in the Netherlands, we barely learn anything about the South African history. Everything I learnt at school, was that we founded Cape Town, and that apartheid a 'Dutch word' is. Nothing about Afrikaners, Boer republics, nothing about the wonderful Afrikaner language. Everything in the name of the European Union and European unity (knowledge about the Boer wars could cause a Dutch-British hate relationship) on SchoolTV there is just 1 program about South African history: Goede Hoop

@celinejvr7

@@dutchskyrimgamer.youtube2748 AND if only more people knew about the Anglo-Boer war and what the British did to not only the Afrikaners, but to all the nations within South-Africa at the time.

You can google about the consentration camps and how many died. (The British were loosing so they hit the Boers where it hurt most: burning their farms and cattle and taking the women and children) and a lot of people don't know that black and white fought with each other agains the British as well.

South-Africa was under British rule for a very long time. (SA fought for the Brits in WW1 and 2)

When you read documents from the Aglo-Boer war you will see how much the language changed over the years too (in such a short time.) It's amazing!

@awellculturedmanofanime1246

@ritzemaritzema-xo4dz its a unique ethnic group that went through genocide etc through its history yet the pulled through ❤️ much love and yes i know apartheid was awful and all but not everything needs to include every part everytime and equating wars against the afrikaners and concentration camps where they were genocided to racist leaders and laws is really not it
