Poor Me
Adam Faith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Poor me wa a ha a ho
Poor me wa a ha a ho
Sorry thoughts leaping around my head
It's been heard and it's been said
That
You tried to date another guy
Didn't hide, didn't even try
Cheating me with lies again
Making me remember when

I used to hold you baby
So tight, each night, that's right
I kinda hoped that maybe you might
Fall for me

Why oh why do voices say to me
Sit and cry, that this was meant to be
Loves unkind and loves untrue
Oh why did love pick out you
For me, for me
Wa ha poor me
Poor me

I used to hold you baby
So tight, each night, that's right
I kinda hoped that maybe you might
Fall for me

Why oh why do voices say to me
Sit and cry, that this was meant to be
Loves unkind and loves untrue
Oh why did love pick out you
For me, for me

Wa ha poor me
Poor me

Overall Meaning

The song "Poor Me" by Adam Faith is a classic 1960s pop tune that tells the story of a heartbroken man who has been cheated on by his girlfriend. The lyrics are packed with emotions and describe the singer's feelings of betrayal, confusion, and sadness. The first line of the song "Poor me wa a ha a ho" sets the tone for the rest of the song as a catchy and angsty tune. The singer begins by expressing his sorrowful thoughts, which are "leaping around my head."

The song then goes on to reveal that the singer's girlfriend has been cheating on him and lying about it. He recalls how he used to hold her tight at night and hoped that maybe she might fall for him, but now he is left heartbroken and alone. The singer questions why love is so unkind and why he was picked to suffer from its cruelty.

The chorus "wa ha poor me, poor me" emphasizes the singer's sadness and self-pity. The overall tone of the song is melancholic, but the upbeat melody and catchy lyrics make it a classic pop tune that has stood the test of time.

He was my heart-throb in the 60s. On my 13th birthday in 1960 I saw him in Dick Whittington at the Wimbldon Theatre. He called me up onto the stage to sing Lonely Pup and gave me a poodle toy which I still have and I'm now 75.
