Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Bartholemew
Adam Green Lyrics

There's a minstrel parade on tv
Let the lights glow, an excellent reason
To stay home tonight
Oh the old men wave their canes
They have yesterday's brains
And their worlds stop turning on sundays
And smudged on the rocks
Distorted and forgotten
Quietly she enters the room
But we can't talk, we can not be seen
Returning her new pair of jeans
Just to stay home tonight
Oh the mirror always shows
There's a stranger in my clothes
Standing on the third rail
Lost at sea
Searching for me
And we don't know how to sail
So if you go to guitar store
You will see me again
Holding the door
It's an excellent night to sleep on the floor
If you stay home tonight
Oh I saw you before
In the guitar store
I was lonely, lazy and useless
And Bartholemew moans
To the counterfeit clones
When he feels like he's not a human
The lyrics of Adam Green's song Bartholemew are full of introspection and contemplation. The song starts with a request to Bartholemew to bring a fork, as there is a minstrel parade on television, and the lights are glowing to celebrate the occasion. However, the singer chooses to stay home instead, rather than being a part of the parade. The first verse of the song talks about how the old men wave their canes, representing the outdated ideologies and thoughts they carry, and how the young lives have been clipped and smudged on the rocks, which shows how the new generation is being ignored and their potential wasted.
The second verse talks about a woman entering the room, but due to certain restrictions, both the singer and the woman cannot talk and cannot be seen together. Also, there's a sense of disorientation in the lyrics when the mirror always shows a stranger in his clothes, and the third rail symbolizes how life can be perilous, and people can get lost at sea while searching for a purpose.
The song ends on a note asking people to stay home and sleep on the floor rather than going out in search of something that they may not even find. The song is a powerful commentary on the struggle of finding one's identity and purpose in life.
