Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Cast a Shadow
Adam Green Lyrics

A sleepy dream memory of our first kiss
Cast a shadow in my direction
Cast a shadow in my direction
Bring back shadows of your affection
Cast a shadow in my direction yeah
A snap-shot dreamy keepsake of your embrace
Cast a shadow in my direction
Cast a shadow in my direction
Bring back shadows of your affection
Cast a shadow in my direction
Bring back shadows over here
Bring back shadows of your face
We'll make shadow plays
We'll dig shallow graves
In my shady, shadow cave
Shadow grows longer in my twilight sleep
I stop then to remember I'm just counting sheep
Cast a shadow in my direction
Cast a shadow in my direction
Cast a shadow in my direction
Cast a shadow in my direction
The song Cast a Shadow by Adam Green is a haunting ballad that is packed with a lot of depth and emotion. The lyrics focus on the idea of nostalgia and the longing for someone that has been lost in time. The singer is seemingly reaching out to the Sandman, asking him to bring back memories of his love and to cast a shadow in his direction so he can feel her presence once again.
The opening lines of the song suggest that the singer has received a gift from the Sandman, who has blessed him with a dream memory of his first kiss. This memory is such a significant one that he wants the Sandman to return with another gift, a dreamy keepsake of their embrace. As the song progresses, the singer's longing for his lost love becomes more apparent as he repeatedly asks for her to cast a shadow in his direction.
The lines "Bring back shadows over here/Bring back shadows of your face/We'll make shadow plays/We'll dig shallow graves/In my shady, shadow cave" suggest that the singer is willing to go to great lengths to feel a connection with his love, even if it is only a shadow. He is willing to create a world of his own, where he can be with her in the shadows of his mind.
Overall, the lyrics to Cast a Shadow are thought-provoking and poetic, capturing the essence of nostalgia and the longing for someone that has long been lost. The repetition of the line "Cast a shadow in my direction" throughout the song creates a sense of urgency and desperation that is beautifully conveyed through Adam Green's emotive vocals.
