Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Losing on a Tuesday
Adam Green Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tell her I'm losing on a Tuesday afternoon
Anger steers me clear of every instinct for eloping
Someone should mention that I won't see you again
Tuesday's the day I die
Moping in style but still so lost
Caught in between the uptown scenes
Destined to fall apart tonight
I'm so glad we stayed together
I'm just losing on a Tuesday filled with purposeful disasters
Tell her I'm losing on a Tuesday afternoon
The lyrics of Adam Green's "Losing on a Tuesday" depict the singer's emotional state as he experiences a series of misfortunes on a seemingly mundane day. The use of the word "purposeful" suggests that the troubles the singer encounters are deliberate, perhaps even self-inflicted, and he expresses his frustration and despair through a number of anguished and reflective phrases. He implores someone to inform his lover that he is "losing" on this particular Tuesday, elevating the significance of a single day in a way that mirrors his profound sense of hopelessness.
The song also touches on themes of sexuality and regret, as the singer suggests that he is missing out on opportunities for love and intimacy due to his anger and general sense of confusion. The line "caught in between the uptown scenes" may be a nod to the singer's social status or financial situation, as he feels like an outsider in a world of glamor and decadence. Additionally, the phrase "Moping in style but still so lost" encapsulates the singer's conflicted emotional state, as he tries to maintain some veneer of composure and dignity even as his life feels like it is spiraling out of control.
In summary, "Losing on a Tuesday" is a poignant reflection on one individual's struggles with routine, despair, and identity. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a day that should be ordinary, but instead becomes a profound reckoning with life's cruelties and uncertainties.
