Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Watching Old Movies
Adam Green Lyrics

How come the sun gone down
How you gonna leave me when the morning comes
Stay if I accept you now
Some boys like to go and get married
Some girl you know she'd love to get high, boy
When I had to go weak with no love 'tween the sheets
Watching old movies in the evening time
Get down grooving when the moonlight shines
That'll teach a woman not to get too bald
Hauling around with a faceless Johnny
Johnny please, Johnny please,
Listen to me boy
Sometimes she did not show
And you have to walk around like there's
Nothing wrong
Then I got the word to go
Mambo
Watching old movies in the evening time
Vacuuming, lost inside a house of chimes
Oh, there's no easy way out from here, no
There's no easy way out from here, babe
The song "Watching Old Movies" by Adam Green may seem like a simple song at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that Green is using a series of disconnected images and phrases to create a sense of longing and loss. The opening line "Watching old movies in the evening time" sets the tone for the rest of the song, as Green reflects on the past and longs for a time when things were simpler. The next line, "How come the sun's gone down?" adds to this feeling of nostalgia, as if he is suddenly realizing that time has passed and life is not as easy as it used to be.
The rest of the song is filled with a series of vivid images that are not immediately connected to one another. In one verse, Green sings about "Some boys like to go and get married, some girl you know she'd love to get high, boy." This sounds like a random assortment of words, but taken together, they seem to be painting a picture of people searching for something to fill the emptiness in their lives. Similarly, in another verse, Green sings about "vacuuming, lost inside a house of chimes," which creates a sense of isolation and aimlessness.
Throughout the song, Green's voice is soft and melodic, which only adds to the sense of longing that permeates the lyrics. The final lines, "There's no easy way out from here, no, there's no easy way out from here, babe," drive this feeling home, as if Green is singing to someone who is no longer with him and he is struggling to move on.
Overall, "Watching Old Movies" is a beautiful and haunting song that takes a series of disconnected images and weaves them together into a portrait of longing and loss.
