Promised Land
Affliction Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I shut the door but you make hole on the their wall
All I want to do is make you to see what they are trying to be
The awful truth behind what you call it reality
You hate the world and I will, I will kill them all
You shut the door and I will burn down the hall
All I want to do is make you to see what they are trying to be
I'd serve the order of grace
I'd serve the chaos of their flames
They both the same, no differences at all
And there's no promised land, no promised land to go
No turning back without an explanation
Stop violating creation
Who keep the will to kill inside
Who's left the tragedy behind
The lyrics to Affliction's song Promised Land depict a sense of disillusionment and frustration with the world and its perceived clashing belief systems. The first verse expresses the singer's dislike of the world, while their partner tries to defend it. The singer wishes to reveal the "awful truth" behind what their partner sees as reality. The second verse takes a more violent turn, with both the singer and their partner expressing a desire to destroy the world. However, the chorus offers a bit of philosophical musing--the idea that order and chaos are ultimately the same, and that there is no promised land to escape to. The final lines pose a question about who is truly responsible for the world's tragedy.
Overall, the song seems to be exploring themes of disillusionment with societal norms and the perceived conflict between order and chaos. The frustration expressed in the lyrics may be indicative of a feeling of powerlessness in the face of social or political issues. The song may also be pointing towards a sense of nihilism, with the idea that there is no promised land or solution to the world's problems.
