Who are they to judge me
If they never spoke with me
Never looked without laughing
Never tried to see, see me
I can't believe that it is only me
The person to hate
I can't believe how they can be so mean
If they could feel the brutal stings of their words
And the bitter cold when they laugh
Once more I'm running
Running away, I must hide
Can't take anymore
A fight to free me from an endless struggle with life
Running, tell me how far should I go
If they're all the same
This fight
I'm fighting my way through
I don't really want to be like them
The way they behave
The way that they live
I don't really need someone
No people like that
Someone in a world with wars and respite
A world without the feeling
I must be running
Running away, I must hide
Can't take anymore
A fight to free me from an endless struggle with life
Running, tell me how far should I go
If they're all the same
This fight
I'm fighting my way through
The song "Eccentric" by After Forever is a powerful piece about feeling misunderstood and judged by society. It explores the frustration of being looked down upon by others without giving a chance to be known or understood. The opening lines, "What do they see when they look at me? Who are they to judge me?" immediately set the tone for the rest of the song. The singer of the song is questioning why people feel they have the right to make assumptions about who she is without ever having a conversation with her.
The second verse delves deeper into the emotional pain caused by the judgment of others. The singer expresses how hurtful it is to be left out and how people can be so cruel with their words. She finds solace in running and hiding; it's a way to escape from the pain of being misunderstood. However, she also acknowledges that this is just a temporary solution and that the real fight is learning to accept herself and find her place in the world without being affected by the opinions of others.
In the chorus, the message becomes more clear. The singer understands that she doesn't want to be like them and that maybe she doesn't need someone like that in her life. She's fighting to be herself and find her way in the world without sacrificing her identity to fit in with others.
Overall, "Eccentric" is a powerful song that touches on the universal struggle of being accepted and understood by others. It encourages listeners to not let the judgment of others define them and to embrace their uniqueness.
