Against Me! Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But hey they really respect your talent
Have your manager call my manager
And we'll make records together
Love success and entertainment
There are certain connotations
It's a 'you give-we take' relationship
Come on now, how long you think
This is really gonna last
How long can you hold their attention
Before they move on to the next dance?
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
Coordinate the marketing
Label publicity touring
Consult the presentation
Go ahead put this in context
It's three points on production
Fifteen percent to management
Ten percent to the agent
Five percent legal representation
We gotta an insurance plan
To succeed the inevitable as far as you can
Gotta make your money while you got the chance
Do whatever it takes to sell it
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
On the inside, on the inside, on the inside
Do you wanna to know how it feels on the inside
In "Unprotected Sex With Multiple Partners," Against Me! critiques the music industry and its exploitative nature. The first verse alludes to the industry's flattery of talent while exploiting it. The second verse highlights the industry's focus on profit over artistic expression, where there's a "you give-we take" relationship. The chorus asks if the listener wants to know how it feels "on the inside," perhaps referring to the behind-the-scenes exploitation and sacrificing of creativity for commercial success. The third verse lays out the nitty-gritty of the music industry's financial structure, painting a grim picture of a money-hungry machine. The song culminates in the final chorus, with the repeated question of wanting to know how it feels on the inside.
