Tik pareizi iesākās,
Kā rakstnieku teorijās,
Kā fizikas formulās.
Tik skaisti kā ilūzijās,
Tik naivi kā operās,
Kur jāizplūst ovācijās,
Pat ja izrāde izgāžas.
Es izgāju viens pret vienu ar Tevi,
Bet aizmetu garām
Tos vārdus, ko klusībā teica pie sevis,
Par jūtām manām.
The first stanza of Ainars Mielavs's song Viens pret vienu talks about how everything seems wonderful and perfect in theory, whether it's in literature or science. It's as beautiful as an illusion and as naive as an opera. But sometimes, even the best of things fail. The second stanza throws light on this failure as the singer talks about going one on one with someone (presumably a lover) and throwing away the words they had said to themselves about their feelings. It suggests that even though the singer went against someone, they wanted to protect their emotions and did not want to reveal them.
The lyrics showcase a very human tendency of wanting to be perfect and thinking everything through, whether it's words or emotions. We all try to fit the theoretical idea of what a perfect relationship, a perfect life should look like. But sometimes, even when we follow the textbook of life, things fall apart, and all we're left with is a lesson. Furthermore, the second stanza shows that sometimes, to protect ourselves, we need to hide our real feelings and protect ourselves from potential failure.

Tik lieliski viss rādījās,
Everything seemed great,
Tik pareizi iesākās,
It all started off so right,
Kā rakstnieku teorijās,
Like in theories of writers,
Kā fizikas formulās.
Like physics formulas.
Tik skaisti kā ilūzijās,
It was gorgeous like illusions,
Tik naivi kā operās,
So naive like in operas,
Kur jāizplūst ovācijās,
Where applause must burst out,
Pat ja izrāde izgāžas.
Even if the show falls apart.
Es izgāju viens pret vienu ar Tevi,
I walked alone against you,
Bet aizmetu garām
But I let go,
Tos vārdus, ko klusībā teica pie sevis,
Those words that I quietly said to myself,
Par jūtām manām.
About my feelings.
